Thanks Packman. It still seems a bit odd to see Vietnam Vets and Thank You in the same sentence. Of course, Utah is one of only 10 states that has not passed legislating making it March 29th or 30th "Returning Viet Nam Vets Day". Seems like the reddest of red states would have been the first. Perhaps the legislature is too busy trying to steal our public lands and keep wolves outside of our borders to spend time on such a trivial matter. I'm writing my representative, Lee Perry, ask for his support for this legislation. Mr. Perry is a friend of vets. He sponsored the bill that returns free state parks passes to 50% disabled vets.

I can't speak for other vets, but it was my duty and honor to go.

The treatment we received will never be forgotten or forgiven, but most of us have put it behind us. At least enough to now say, "Thanks for the thanks."

With the help of google, I found the following on the Ogden Standard Examiner:

OGDEN — The 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War will be commemorated in Utah with several events planned along the Wasatch Front.
At 2 p.m. Tuesday, which is Utah Vietnam Veterans Day, a commemoration ceremony will be held at the Utah Capitol. Afterward, at 6:30 p.m., a free dinner will be held for Vietnam veterans at the Layton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 1389 N. Main St.
Commemoration ceremonies will also be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Central Davis High School, 633 Church St., Layton, and at 6 p.m. April 9 at Ogden VFW Post, 907 W. 12th St.
At the ceremonies, the documentary film “Long Journey Home” and the Utah 50th Anniversary Commemoration Book will be given to veterans.
The Utah Department of Veterans Affairs says, eventually, all 47,000 Utah Vietnam veterans will receive the book and documentary.

Rocky, IMO one of the biggest reasons that the Vets returning from conflict areas since Gulf War 1 in 1991and since have been treated so much better than we were during the VN era, is BECAUSE of those Viet Nam era vets that are now in their 60's plus and have said "Never again will a returning American Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine treated with the disrespect and down right hostility that Viet Nam vets encountered.

Sometimes America does learn, slowly maybe, but eventually we do.
And Thanks for the Thanks, as well as Thanks to the new crop of returning vets for your service and sacrifice.
