[#0000FF]I may not be float tubing much in Utah Lake any more. The catfish down there are showing signs of the feared pollution problems in that lake. The Loys (carp seiners) have been reporting huge catfish in Utah Lake for years, but I have always discounted that as sensationalism and them having a bit of fun with the local yokels.
Now there is pictorial proof. Here is a pic of some poor guy who was fishing for walleyes near the Spanish Fork river inlet...at "Sandy Beach". He was wading about knee deep when this big catfish suddenly rushed in, grabbed him by the lower legs and began swallowing him whole.
[inline "MAN EATING CATFISH.jpg"]
Fortunately there was a large group of "happy harvesters" nearby and they were able to pull the angler away from the fish...and then pull the fish up onto the shore. For the next hour or so there were heated arguments and even fights over who got the various portions of the cut-up catfish. That's why there are no remnants to turn over to DWR for official weight, measurement and DNA testing.
