I recently inherited a 1987 Sylvan Sea Monster from my grandma. The boat has been sitting in her garage for the last 20 years since my grandpa died. It has a 50 HP Mercury Outboard Motor that I went through and got running. While cleaning out the garage I found something that looks like it goes to this motor, but I am not sure what it is. It is labeled "Mercury Marine," so I am pretty sure it has something to do with this motor. (See pictures attached)

My guess is that it may be used to winterize the motor somehow? Any help would be appreciated!

I'm no expert but it looks to me to be an two cycle oil injector tank. Do you mix the oil in the gas your self or do you pour the oil into a small tank, like the one in your Pics?

If you google the motor you should be able to pull up all details and pictures that show you everything about it. But as mentioned, it may be the external reservoir for the oil injection pump that adds oil to the fuel mixture.

You guys were right on. It turns out that this is an old AutoBlend unit for mixing the oil in my two stroke. Apparently these were notorious for failing and causing motors to seize. Everything I read online said to just throw it away and mix the oil myself directly in the gas tank. That is what I was doing anyway, before I found this unit tucked away in my grandpa's garage. If you guys think that is bad advice, or will cause other problems, please let me know.

Thanks again for the responses, I really appreciate your help!
