Took my canoe and electric motor to troll a little at E. Canyon Wed. a.m., but didn't get started 'til about 0930...working some of the 'bugs' out always takes a bit longer on the first trip...2 solid hits before 1100, first one immediately busted line by my lure (said tie line directly to lure -- but I think edge on lure may have cut line -- think I'll at least use a ring on each spoon from now on) This was a Kamlooper spoon, in rainbow color...just happened to have one more like it, got that rigged up, and about half hour later, bam, another solid hit, this one hooked solid...jumped 3 or 4 times, and I could see it was a large fish, 80 feet of line out...working him back slowly to the canoe, now I realized I forgot my net ! so playing and releasing drag tension, finally getting him closer, I could tell he stayed deep and wanted to run again, so quickly adjusted the drag -- crap -- turned it the wrong way, 'Twang' there goes the line, the big fish, my last Kamlooper rainbow spoon...Dope......After a few more 'bugs' I did finally get one 15"er, nice rainbow...but the 2 that got away? Who knows....guess that's why we keep going back...Guluk...

Sounds like a good learning experience, too bad you lost all the gear but at least you weren't skunked. Were there many other people out there fishing?

There were shore fishers spread around near all the access areas, and I saw 7 or 8 larger craft on the water trolling, and there must have been a class on paddle boarding for a few hours, as there were about a dozen of them working between the ramp and the dam area, having fun...
Couldn't find any Kamlooper brand spoons at Cabela's, Smith's, or WalMart, so I picked up some similar replacements, and think I'll give it another try Mon. or Tues.....The Kamlooper spoon in orange/ gold works great at the Gorge for the laker pups and all size kokes, but I don't know if they are available locally...I have sent for some previously...they are nice...Hope to see you on the water, or on the ice at Strawberry next year...

Reports show that East Canyon is currently 65% full. Did that seem about right to you?

Yup, that is it...Rainbow in that model was (and last year) good for me on 'bows at E. Canyon and Rockport...so I have to pick up a couple more...I'll check out Sportsman's...tks for the info...and the nickel/florescent is the one I've had good success with at the Gorge trolling...The yellow featured one is the one I actually did land one with on Wednesday, after loosing the two Rainbow pattern spoons...I also changed out my 6ft, 4lb flourescent leaders to 8lb flourescent on both reels, so I hope that's giving me good strength without compromising visibility....
Now I guess I'll just have to get out again and try my new stuff! tks again...

Hey RR -- It's definitely up now from where it was at this time last year...I'd guess at least 6 to 10 feet up, and it looked like it's still down 10 to 12 feet from high water mark...so it still has a way to go, but there's a definite improvement...Percent wise I couldn't guess...I'll let you know if I notice any difference next time I go, hopefully this week...

Thank you, good sir. Your description is as good as a number.

Nice report.
I was giving miss leading information on the water level of EC on here in early April.
Do you know if the Big Rock on the East Canyon Resort side of the lake is wet or underwater yet? I was told it was only to be disappointed when I went in early April. Only to see the lake water level a good 10 to 15 feet away from the big rock.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Wish I knew! I guess that marker isn't on my radar, as I always head out from the boat ramp marina whether ice fishing or trolling...the big cove just left of the boat ramp now has some water in it, where it has been completely dry the last couple years, if that helps you for reference...hope it's still rising...

It was still on dry land last week but there is hope of it getting wet. They still are not releasing any more than minimum water from the dam[cool]
