Fished the south end on Saturday from about 1 hour after sun up until about 1:30. Brought home 62 crappie over 9 inches between 2 fisher people. Roughly half were over 10 inches. I have no idea what's happening at the north end.

Hit a HUGE school about 1:00 and it was hard to leave that school to come home.

I had the exact same experience. We fished from Spring Rec. Site, down lake about 7 miles past Cemetery Point and every point held crappie. Chartreuse was the magic color a little red helped as well.

All the fish were between 9-10.5 inches and we caught plenty. It looked like the crappie were moving in to spawn. Water temperatures in the afternoon were 63-64 every day.

:-)

We caught several that looked like they had swallowed a golf ball. Looked weird, but cool.

I may have asked this question before (my memory is foggy!), but where are you launching to fish the upper/southern end of the reservoir? Usually launch at woodhead, but would like to cut a bit of the drive off. Are you launching on the Oregon side? Thanks!

Fished yesterday, launched at spring Rec. the fishing was slow in the morning but improved once it warmed up a bit. Most of the fish we caught are still suspended 15-30 feet down in the water column, but did notice some bank fisherman that appeared to be catching fish shallow. Everywhere you go the fish finder is lit up with schools of fish. Caught fish from 6-11 inches. We used yellow jigs, and chartreuse jigs. Seems like the crappie will be around for a few years.

Going to Brownlee in the morning.
Should I go to Woodhead and fish that end or put in at Spring and fish be ween there and the cemetery.

I don't have much info regarding woodhead, but I would assume with the number of crappie on the upper end that woodhead area would be a good bet as well. But, if you fish from spring and down the reservoir from there, it's just about a guarantee that you'll get into them; whether they're active is another story, but they're just about everywhere. I guess It's personal preference on where you decide, yesterday we decided to go to spring because it's about an hour shorter drive from where we live. That being said, I think I enjoy fishing the lower end of the reservoir by woodhead better.

Should mention a word of caution, please be careful of the floating debris coming into the Reservoir. Everything from trash to whole trees is floating around out there, with some areas that stretch clear across the reservoir. Most of it is harmless, but some could do a lot of damage and is hard to see.

Thank you very much. I agree. I love fishing that Woohead area. I'll make sure to post a report.

Here's an update.

We fished mainly around the Morgan Creek area on Thursday and Friday. Friday evening the fish moved up really shallow and got really aggressive. Crappie were swirling in the surface film and we even had two fish jump clear out of the water trying to grab our hooks dangling just above the water. It was crazy fast fishing. Most of our fish were around 9 inches or so with a few breaking the 10 inch mark.

As already stated, lots of floating sticks, wood, and trees in the water. Watch out.

I said that I would post. Unfortunately the thunderstorms kept us from going to Brownlee yesterday. Hopefully sometime over the next week or two.

I'm planning on taking the family to Woodhead this weekend to hopefully get in on the crappie while it's still hot. Is the Idaho side better than the Oregon side or vice versa or does it matter? Should I be focusing on coves or points? Thanks in advance!

Just a word of caution the water temp is about 13 degree difference from Spring creek too Woodhead, so the water is alot colder down at woodhead, i'm sure you will still find a bunch of crappie's especially if you have a boat and go up too where the powder river comes in, about 6 miles above woodhead, Good luck,
Matt

First time on this forum. Planning on taking my Father in law up to Brownlee next week. He moved out here three years ago from Georgia and have yet taken him up there from Fruitland. Hope to have some decent luck. Took him up to Anderson Ranch last year and had pretty good luck so will also head back up there for a few days the first of the month. Will follow up with a post on how we did when we get back. One question, has anyone heard if the Crappie fishing ever returned to Paddock res?
Thanks

Have not fished Brownlee for crappie. I take it there is no bag limit on them.
