My family is headed to Oceanside, OR the week of July 4 and are considering a guided fishing excursion. It looks like our options that time of year are light tackle bottom fishing or hitting the first part of the Summer Chinook season. I have never done either of these types of fishing.

I would appreciate it if you would let me know which of these types of fishing you prefer (both from the angling perspective and the eating perspective (I really like salmon, but I have no idea how rockfish/ling, etc. taste)).

If you have any recommendations for a guide/outfitter that would also be appreciated. I would have posted this on the Oregon site, but I checked their board and there doesn't seem to be much activity.

Thanks!

Well Bill Lavin out of Boise. He goes to CR and gets some awesome Walleye. So not sure if you'd be interested in that...if you want his number send me a PM...

Contact Garibaldi Charters out of Garibaldi Oregon or Pacific Salmon Charters in Ilwaco Washington. Both do a good job. You can find them online.

I really like getting on the half day bottom fishing boats. There is no pressure and the fish are easy to catch (if they are biting) and the trips only cost about 60 bucks. you can often get them to toss a crab pot in for you too. Those rockfish are about the best eating fish on the planet, way better than halibut, the meat is a lot sweeter and with a six fish limit you can really bring home some fillets. Trip advisor is loaded with these boats and in my opinion they are all about the same.
