Been debated on which this is June or Utah. Thought I would run it past the experts... Pictures below.

My handy dandy Utah Fishing Guidebook doesn't have an illustration of a Utah sucker, but it does have one of the June sucker, which your photo closely matches.

If it was caught in Utah Lake, it's almost certainly a June.

A June sucker will have its mouth opening pointed outward. A Utah sucker will have its mouth opening pointed down.

The picture shows the mouth opening pointed down, thus it is a Utah sucker in its spawning coloration.

Where did you catch it?

That's a June for sure they are all over up that river right now spawning. Nice sized one too.

both fish are extremely closely related, and thus pictures like those you posted make it very hard to identify by.

A picture comparing their mouths, would have been helpful, but probably not definitive.

Here is another pic of a June sucker feeding. It demonstrates how wide Junies open their mouths to feed.

Recognizing that there are limitations to the pictures, it looks to me like the pictured fish has a mouth pointed too downward to open it like in the above picture and also has the fleshy lips of a Utah sucker as demonstrated in PBH's picture. I still go with Utah sucker. Both June sucker and Utah sucker spawning coloration is similar, therefore an appeal to color is not helpful here.

Perhaps the original poster could tell us how fleshy the lips were or if it was possible to open the mouth rostrally as June suckers do.

The reason for the post was that on another website there was a heated debate going on whether this was a June or a Utah. The guy that posted the pic initially said it was caught in the Provo then later changed it to the Weber. Another dude posted a picture of a fish identical saying that it was a June, the argument was all over the place. The guy that caught says that the mouth was on bottom facing which would lean toward a Utah. I posted the pics just in hopes for clarification for some experienced minds on the matter.
