[font "Calibri"]We were accompanied to Lucerne valley marina on flaming gorge with violent thundershowers mid week, but by Thursday morning the weather had cleared. Our boat “Hope” is moored permanently at Lucerne Valley marina since the derby so getting on the water was not difficult.[/font]

[font "Calibri"]Fishing has been good at Lucerne and antelope bays so we opted to fish close by and for Kokanee. With a competent helmsman and diligent fishermen it is possible to troll 8 lines behind the pontoon boat; 4 rods on side planers (2 port, 2 starboard) 2 rods stacked on each down rigger.[/font]

[font "Calibri"]Using rocky mountain tackle dodgers and hootchies we were soon catching fish. The weather stayed good and the company was outstanding. It is a great joy to be able to fish the valiant veterans and our volunteers that were aboard completed the day in an outstanding manner.[/font]

[font "Calibri"]As we strive to finish the big fallen warriors memorial camp that we are building on the shores of the lake we will be fishing disabled combat veterans and their families aboard our boats. What an extraordinary thing it is to be able to accomplish this portion of our mission and serve those who have given so much to the cause of Liberty. Thanks for the post. I am heading up there on June 6th with a brand new Sun Tracker 24 XP3!! I am so excited I can hardly stand it. I wish I knew how that pontoon you were on was set up. I need pointers.
Where would you suggest trying for Kokanee? This new boat will have a 80 lb thrust bow Minkota and two canon downriggers out the back for trolling. Not sure how an electric motor will work trolling. The Verado engine will not idle less than 3 miles an hour, according to the dealer. This will be fun trying to figure everything out.
I hope we can catch some beautiful fish like that.

If you are staying at Lucerne
you could fish by the pipe line
just look for boats

I have never fished in that kind of boat, The Minkota should pull it 1.7 mph
the bad thing is your 2 battery's may go dead after 4 or 5 hours.

Thanks for the information. They said this 80 lb thrust should be able to move the boat 1 to 2.5 easily with 3 toons. I installed a charging system that will charge the batteries back up when the boat engine is running. I am running a 24 volt system that should be plenty.

The shuttlehawk is a cool devise. He did not show on the video what he used on the cable to stop the shuttlehawk 10 feet above his other lure. I am sure I can find that out.

it comes with a stop that snaps on the down rigger wire
but I use a line counter reel. and also you can watch it go down on your fish finder
and stop it any place you want. your rod will load up just right.

If you want to put one downrigger down 80' for lake trout and the shuttle-hawk down 30' for Kokes it works good are where ever the fish are at.

I have a minnkota 80lb 24V i pilot link. (I love this thing) I only get 2.1 mph out of it and the batterys only last 4 hr. so I have 4 batterys so I can go all day

That Verado will troll all day without even a hiccup, in fact you won't even be able to hardly hear it at all.
If you need to slow down you could run bags( I hate them and refuse to run them) or go get a cheap aluminum prop in a much lower pitch.
Your holeshot will be awesome but you will lose top end speed but who cares if you are catching kokes.
One word of caution if you run a lower pitch prop, watch your tach so you don't run over your engines rpm range.

I've not had great luck with the shuttle hawk. I love the Scotty clips if you're looking to stack lines. Just be careful reeling the cable up and hitting them, they pop off and don't float. I need more for the boat come to think of it.

So I took the brand new pontoon with the verado motor out for the maiden voyage yesterday. That engine is so quiet I can't even hear it. The slowest we could troll was 2.5 miles per hour. We had 15 on the boat so fishing was not the priority on this maiden voyage. However, I did throw out leaded line a couple of times even though the speed was high. We caught rainbows every time we put the lines out. Crazy!! What a great machine. Wow. I did not have time to or space to play with the new Minkota Terrova motor. That will be next at flaming gorge next Monday.
Hurray, I have a new boat and I caught fish going 2.5 mpg.

We installed a double bank minkota charging system that will charge the batteries when the engine runs. We also installed a charging system that has a plug mounted on the side of my console and all I have to do at night is plug it in. It will top off the batteries at night.

I did not get a chance to test it yesterday on the maiden voyage at Deer Creek. The Verado engine on the back trolled at 2.5 and we caught fish. Not too bad.
