Hello fellow BFTERS,
Trying to get some information on Pelican Lake as far as water kevelevel and if the Bluegill and Sunfish are in the shallows yet? Thanks in advance for any helpful information! I hope everyone has a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend!

Yes the bluegills are in the shallows.

The bad news is that they aren't very big.

In the three trips out there the largest gill that I have caught was six inches. Most are only 4-5 inches.

Now if you want to chase bass then there is some awesome fishing for 10-12 inch bass just about anywhere and anyway that you want to fish for them.

The last two trips the topwater bite was off the hook.

Work the open pockets in the reeds and hang on.

I might be going back out there on Monday myself to give it another working over.

Couple weeks ago when I went all I could catch were 8-10" size bluegill and bass 13-16" but the wind was so terrible back then that i couldn't discover the place more but they're was a bass tournament going around the lake and I saw a few big bass being pulled out of they're live wells.

I was up there couple weeks ago and they were in 8-9' back then. I was fly fishing so crawdad pattern and size 4 woolly bugger did the tick for bass and bluegill. I'll be up there one of these days from saturday - sunday at pelican so if you see a guy in a fish cat float tube with a monster hat whipping out a fairy wond that would be me [Wink]

Thanks for all the feedback! Much appreciated! If you see two guys fishing by a white Silverado that would be me and my buddie. Feel free to say hello! Have a safe and successful trip where ever you end up fishing this weekend!
