As I asked earlier this month for advice about shore fishing Jordanelle, I thought I would provide my input.

We arrived late evening on Friday, no time to get out and fish as we had to set up camp.

I was shore fishing all weekend, using power bait off the bottom.

Saturday AM - We hit the west side of the lake, and are there for about 40 minutes when an older gentleman strolls over to set up, we talk for 5 minutes and he proceeds to tell us he pulled 32 out the day before in our spot.

He sets up to our right and 10 minutes into it he hooks up his first one and we are still fishless. He proceeds to land another 4 before we see action.

We landed 4 all 18+ inches and all weighed around 2-2.5 lbs. We kept them, as we made a dinner out of them for the evening.

Saturday PM - We head back out and land another 2 from a spot further south than where we were due to a lot of people there. Storm came in and we waited it out, then walked back to our morning spot and pulled 3 more out. This time we had 2 12" and 2 20". Breakfast!

Sunday AM - We land another 4 in our same spot, but it was very slow, I felt the spot had been hammered by a lot of the families the night before.

Sunday PM - We decided to get away from the crowd and walk about a mile and a half down the western shore towards the damn, away from everyone and the trees. We hit a nice beach with rocks and sand and fish from there. 1st cast, 21" 1.5 lbs, then my bro in law lands 2 in a row...a 12" and another 20". Just then the storm starts coming in and I about lose my pole. The only reason I kept it was my pole stick in the ground was in there solid enough that the Y in it held my reel.

Brought him in, 23" and almost 3 lbs. We decided to head back to the camp and we made it back in time as the storm tried to blow our tents out of there.

All in All, I loved my experience at Jordanelle, and will probably add it now in my summer lake rotation for fishing.

Thanks for the report. I haven't fished Jordanelle in years. It sounds like by the size of the fish you were catching that I might need to get back there and try it again.

It doesn't seem like you needed any advice, you did very well.[Wink]

[#0000FF]Until the water temps get much over about 60 degrees there can be some pretty good shore fishing for rainbows. But once the waters warm a bit the fish go deeper...often MUCH deeper.

During the summer you can catch perch and smallmouth in the same areas, by switching to worms or jigs or spinners tipped with worms.

Starting about mid September...when the waters begin to cool down again...the trout come back into shallower water. But that is when DWR plants a lot of new "hatchery pets" too and you have a tough time getting through the 10-12 inch rainbows to catch something larger. Still, they attract a lot of folks who just want some tugs for the kids.

Nice work. Glad you found a few decent fish and had some fishy dining pleasure. The trout from both Deer Creek and Jordanelle are great eating.

I took the kids out Saturday around noon and caught 19 good sized browns and rainbows on crankbaits in two hours. They were all caught in water depths of 15-22 feet. Jordanelle is quickly becoming my favorite pond.
