Beautiful calm morning at Little Dell... perfect conditions for a Callibaetis hatch.

And they showed up around 8:30... hatching sporadically over the next 2+ hours. Fish seemed torn between them and the always-dependable Chironomids.

It was tough sledding under those conditions once the sun got up. Then the breeze kicked up, the chop came, and the fish became less shy.

Looks like a good day, what was the hot bug?

Man, BEAUTIFUL shots. That middle one of the mayfly is magazine quality.

I have fished Little Dell off and on for close to 20 years, and I have rarely taken a fish on the top water. Well done.

When conditions went calm and the mayflies were hatching, Denny's Callibaetis Nymph on a short strip/pause retrieve was working. Killer pattern wherever these insects are present.

Thanks. That was the best of about two dozen macro shots of mayflies drifting by. [Wink]

My best dry fly for lakes has been a Comparadun Sparkle Dun in sizes 12-16.
