Hi all!
My dad is flying out to New York in early August to help me drive my car back home after a summer internship. I had an idea to say "thank you" by surprising him with a day of fishing sometime during our trip. Unfortunately I am not the fishing expert of the family...he loves salmon fishing back home, and has done a fair amount of freshwater and saltwater fishing on the west coast, some lake fishing in MN, and always fishes when we go on vacation to somewhere tropical. What do I get the man that's fished everywhere?

So if you know of any CAN'T MISS spots, species, or guides anywhere on our route (or 1-2 hours out of the way) please let me know! He's not a fan of fly fishing, and we won't have a boat or any tackle with us, so it will have to be a guided trip. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

It appears that Idaho is on your route. There is tons of good fishing up in the panhandle. There are others spots on the way too.[cool]

The big hitters on the route that I see (non fly that is)

Lake Erie for SMB but I'd guess he's done that one.
Devils Lake,ND for perch, walleye and pike.
Coeur d' Alene Lake, ID for chinook, pike and SMB

I'm sure there are a ton more but that's the ones that come to mind.
Good luck on your adventure.

I love Montana and the fishing possibilities there. Most of the guides, but not all, around Missoula are fly fishing guides. See "A River Runs Through It" and you will get a taste of why.
Here is a link to a web page showing some of the options.

Good luck and good on ya for treating your dad so special.
