Just wanted to hop on and introduce myself. I live in Kaysville Utah and grew up fishing the Weber river. Have been an avid fly-fisherman since I was a kid. I have fished the Weber and Provo rivers more than anything else, but don't mind taking the tube out and throwing lures or bait.

Recently, after hooking into some catfish at the community ponds with my 3 year old, have really become interested in catching some bigger catfish. I have fished Utah Lake several times in the last few weeks from the shore and have done pretty well for not knowing what I'm doing chasing cats. Have caught a good number of fish in the 24-27" range. Lots of fun for sure.

Would love to find some a bit closer to home, but haven't been able to scratch anytihing more than a solitary wiper in 3 trips to willard.

Anyway, looking forward to sharing some reports and successes and learning from what others have to offer as well.

I'm also going to move your post to our Utah board so others can greet you and maybe give you some tips on where to catch Cats around the Kaysville area.

Welcome to the site UTK14 !
Utah Lake is my go to spot if I'm looking to catch cats.
You have definitely found the right spot for useful information and a great bunch of guys that are always willing to help. Someone will surely post some good info on catfish action maybe closer to Kaysville. But JMO as far as quantity and size UL is my destination.

Thanks all. Yeah, Utah Lake has definitely treated a rookie well so far. Seems to have plenty of eager cats and decent sizes. It's been a lot of fun figuring it out.

Welcome to BFT fellow Davis Dart! What year did you graduate? I was class of '98, we might know each other. I also grew up fly fishing the Weber, Provo, and Ogden...from Farmington.

Good luck in your catfish endeavors. I got into catfishing back when we lived in KY for 10 years...caught some monster Blues, Flats, and Channels! My favorite bait of choice was either whole skipjacks when going for Blues and Flats in the big rivers, or Chicken Gizzards mixed with cherry coolaid powder for Channels in lakes and ponds...they love that!

Thanks for the welcome. Graduated in '04 so a few years behind you, but not by much. Will have to give the gizzards a try. Seems like they would be slightly less messy and easier to keep on the hook than livers. Have had some success with Hot Dogs in Kool Aid, so I'm sure chicken gizzards would be a solid option as well.

'04 huh, probably went to school with your older siblings if you had any. Yeah....try the gizzards. Livers are such a mess, hate fishing with them. Gizzards are a lot less messy, and stay on the hook sometimes for several fish. Good luck! Go Darts!

Welcome to BFT. Another Kaysvillain here, class of '91.

I know nothing about big cats, but if you want to catch a few little guys with your son then Kaysville ponds holds a bunch. We took the scouts there a couple of weeks ago and were able to land a handful of little mud cats.
