I was there saturday, yes I did survive the great sea war, untill about 11:00 then we retreated. The fishing was very good but it was hard to keep the newly planted 9 inchers off. Got four good 16 to 18 inchers for dinner. The 9 year old Grand son loved it.
Spent the first two hours hunting the great toothy eyes. Hooked two but did not boat them, next time I'll use a two hook spinner rig. They were just biting of the end of the night crawler. Tried the jerk bait for a while but no takers??

Question for ya'll-- Would people (fisherman) help to create a campaign to voice an opinion about the terrible boating conditions we face when trying to take our rightful space on the lake?

I would like to hear how many would help?

Sorry didn't mean to hijack your post.

You would probably find people that would help voice an opinion, but I don't think much would or could be done.

I have been frustrated on the water before, but at the end of they day power boaters have the same right to the waters fisherman do, and I can't think of a solution to the problem, maybe someone else has some ideas. It may be worth a try.

I just fish super early or avoid the busy waters...

I am thinking about signs at the boat ramps and gates. Making people aware of the laws, they are suppose to know. Contacting officials with our side of the issues, no voice means Nothing will happen. I know people share my concerns.

You have to be on the water by 5:00 AM and off by 11:00. They used to leave the gate at the Island open so you could go early, but with the mussel inspection, they don't open till 6 now.

I have made the suggestion several times to the DNR folks about putting card readers on the gates, then putting a bar code on your Fun Tag so that you can swipe the tag and get in when you want. A computer would record who entered when which would help with the mussel inspection and also give a record if there were problems. So far that has fallen on deaf ears.

Another thing that would help would to have the northern arm of the lake off limits to water skiing. It is very disconcerting when you are fishing the flat up there and have a ski/waterboarder go back and forth between you and the shoreline, when you are in 6-8ft of water and they are in 2-3. Don't understand that at all. They have the whole middle part of the lake, but they have to be within 20 ft of shore or up shallow. Can someone please explain that to me ???
That may help but I fear that unfortunately signs would be just as ineffective as the laws are now. Most of them just don't seem to care. Maybe a combination of that and also officers being more strict and issuing citations.

I am with you though, it sure is annoying and as long as it's reasonable, I'd support something like this.

Haha yup sounds to familiar - I'm sure they are cruising the shorelines to find flat water or at least less waves as they are somewhat absorbed into the shoreline.

I really like your idea of the card system, makes sense...

Yes, they have every right to the water as we do. I'm fine with that, no problem there. What really pisses me off is when the boats come within 20' of me and my boat. I've had my line run over several times. The last time I was at Hyrum I lost my composure after about 45min of this. I pulled out my old spare rod, threw on a size 11 Rapala and started tossing it at the jackass in the wake boat. It only it one fling before he got the point. The right move? Probably not, but a guy can only take so much inconsiderate, self absorbed, BS from these idiots.

The Best thing you can do to alleviate Deer Creek is to advocate for more water in UL.

With UL so low that power squadron boats can't function there, every single powerboater in Utah County is on DC.

I have a ski boat and I love surfing and skiing. I won't go to Deer Creek on Saturdays now until at least mid September.

If you think it's scary fishing with all those idiots on that lake, try being in the water yourself.

Are you the gentleman that swims with the two dogs? If so, your crazy! Haha. Me and my dog enjoy watching your dogs out there swimming, their good swimmers with lots of stamina!

It is time to make some waters 100% wakeless on a every other day schedule.
I vote for Willard, Deer Creek, and Pineview to be the first three lakes to do this.
This way, not a single person is excluded from at least being in the water on a wakeless day and if you choose to fish on a wake day at least you know what you are getting yourself in to.
Regretably, I am ready to sign the petition.

I like this idea, on all waters that is planted by the state.

Feel free to start a new thread with this idea and see how much momentum it can build. I would do it but I don't know how to transfer a quote box over to a new topic.
We might as well find out sooner than later if it has potential.

I would rather put up with extra boat traffic than be on a entire lake that was wake less . It may not be such a big problem at dear creak or other smaller lakes but could you imagine if you had to travel any distance like at the larger lakes . lakes like Pineveiw ,Deercreek, Jordanelle etc. are just to close to large city's and are simply getting to much traffic. Colder weather and off days are probably the only respite from the crowds.

I don't think more law enforcement will help. There are plenty of boats out there that cost mid-five to six figures, pulled up by mid-five-figure trucks. Those people aren't going to quit just because they had to pay a couple-hundred-dollar fine.

It's also not just a problem with recreational boaters at Deer Creek. I've had plenty of people cruise by too close at Strawberry. Just last week some jerk blasted between me and the shore with less than 50' between us, when there was an entire reservoir to pass on the other side.

The recreational boaters cruising back and forth driving a huge wake and blasting music across the lake don't care one bit if they're making it difficult to fish. People are just jerks and that's it.

Just have all the water sport folks go to Scofield. Since the fishing there stinks and there aren'tmany fishermen there it wouldn't be much of a conflict.

I had the same type of experience at DC a week ago. I think it is time for anyone operating a boat to have to go though some sort of boat safety training course or maybe a licensing course. You have to have a drivers license to operate a car why not a license for operating any watercraft. At least they would know the regulations and rules on the water but following the rules would be another issue.

nice haul of trout Kokanee!

crowds are sick out there and at PV. I've been doing the hike and fish thing in the mountains and leaving my boat in storage to avoid the dreaded Power squadron - bring on the fall

Now I don't want to start a long, drawn out racial conversation because that is not my intent at all, and I am only going to use the term because I don't know what else to call it. But... we should organize an event where fisherman get together at a specified lake at a specified time and have a Mexican road block on the water. We all line up side by side 30 or so feet apart and troll at 2 mph up and down the middle of the lake and make it difficult for them to do what they are there to enjoy. Maybe it would help them be a little more mindful of what we are there to enjoy
