Full Version: Willard or UL this weekend?

I am pretty new to catfishing and am headed out again Friday night. Should be able to fish until about midnight. Last weekend I fished Lindon at UL with decent success.

I am a bank fisherman for the time being, and with the low and lowering water at UL, and the algae bloom coming on, I am wondering if I might be better off heading up to Willard. Willard is a little closer to my home and I would like to get to know that fishery as well.

Any advice or recommendations of Willard vs UL for Friday night?

Thanks.

[#0000FF]I'll be doing another shakedown cruise with my new red ride tomorrow, at the north marina. Will post a report before the end of the day.

In years past there has been good cattin' about this time from several spots around the lake. The SW corner is often good both for cats and wipers. And right inside the north marina can also be good for both with the water levels up.

It can also be pretty good fishing off the points of the channel entrance at the south marina. The problem this year is that there is so much brush between the channel and the shoreline...grew up during the low water years. If you hook a fish you have to manhandle it to the surface and water ski it to the net.

Another good spot in years past has been the area on either side of the corner at the light pole...in the NE corner of the lake. The depth drops off fairly quickly and if you can survive the rutted roads around the west dike...and the mosquitoes...you can sometimes get some good action.

It looks like the powers that be on UL have made your choice a little easier with the UL "closure".

Thanks for the info and advice TubeDude. Sounds like I might be headed to Willard.

I'll second TD advise on the SW corner, with the water level dropping the sandy beach there has once again been exposed. It might not matter to you but if you fish in either marina or even park there, the fee is $11 and it might even go up on the weekend, I know it did last year. Mussels and crawlers are the best baits but I know cut bait and minnows can also do well at times. Good luck, hope you fine some willing fish.

Good to know. SW corner is sounding like a likely place. I will keep you posted. Really appreciate the help.

When the water drops a bit more and you can get out on the rocky point on the right hand side of the north marina, there are several spots off the edge of that point that have been pretty fair catfish producers in late summer, early fall.
