Hello everyone I am new to the site, so I apologize if this thread breaks any rules or anything, but the fishing community are the best people I can ask!

I'm a Wyoming resident and I just got my year fishing license for Utah (Yay!) and I am planning on searching everywhere I possibly can in Utah to find Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass! I've watched tons of videos of people catching them and they look like so much fun and that has inspired me to search for the buggers!

Anyway, I will be heading down to East Canyon in search of the smallies this week sometime, but I don't have a boat so I'll be stuck on the shore. I know that smallies like rocky shorelines as well as some decently thick cover, but I've never been down to East Canyon before and I have NO idea where I can park somewhat close to the lake and be able to access these areas. I'm in need of some advice from you guys! Where should I park to be able to find some of these awesome smallies? Any response will help! Thank you all so much in advance! =)

Welcome, I've personally only fished for bass a few times at east canyon. We got into alot of 10 to 13 inchers. We fished over by the damn next to the buoys. If the waters low enough ( I haven't been up their since open water so I'm not sure of the water level, but usually this time of year it's already been drawn down pretty low) fish as close to the damn in the cliffs. You'll be able to see the damn in front of the damn if that makes sense. You'll see what I'm talking about. I always just Fished small jigs' worms and spinners and plain old worms. Theirs parking right off the road by the damn. Hope this helps?

Caught these from shore with a ten foot drop to the weeds. I fished the weeds. The road and overlook parking is close.

Awesome thank you guys so much! I am planning on fishing right next to the dam and hopefully catching some decent Smallmouths! What is a good size hook to use for smallies? I have a lot of different sizes like 1, 1/0, 2/0, 2, etc. Also, I'm planning on throwing weighted Texas rig Senkos and maybe some dropshot Senkos as well. Any other suggestions? I have some crankbaits, spinnerbaits and even a topwater frog too lol.
