How do I catch walleye at deer creek? I don't have a motor boat, but I have a kayak and a float tube.

I would not say I was an expert on walleye but I do catch some in Deer Creek from a float tube. The fishing shows online and tv make it look easy to catch eyes. They are quite a bit different here than say Green Bay. The easiest time to find them seems to be just after the spawn. They will put on their feed bag and will hit presentations aggressively. I catch more walleyes on jigs than any other method of fishing. Of course I don't troll from my tube cause I can't kick my fins fast enough to do so. Right after the spawn I like the areas on the Charleston side with weeds in depths from 10-15 ft of water. Walleyes move a lot and I have heard that from lots of anglers that frequent DC. I have been looking for drop off areas in the rocks where they could possibly be hanging in those areas. If the walleyes strike my jig with aggression I will speed up my presentation and that will usually score me a few more. If I get them working the jig slowly with that subtle bite I will continue to work my jig slowly. I have never night fished it but that may be better than the day during the hot part of the summer. Most people don't know how to detect the bite when it is subtle. They have cheek muscles that allow the walleye to suck the bait in. Sometimes all you get is a slight hesitation as you work your presentation in. So any thing that doesn't feel like you just bringing in the jig, set the hook. You might be surprised that you actually have a walleye on the line. Good luck in your quest.
