Hey folks, I'm heading out to Nags Head NC, and was wondering if anybody could help me with some fishing suggestions. I'm gonna take my Utah gear and poke around on the beach, but would be open to a decent priced charter.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You should try posting your question on the NC board as well:

Looks pretty dead over there, unfortunately. I've found some decent info browsing around online.

You should try surf fishing! I've been taking the first steps for that to be included in fishing types to learn by purchasing my equipment, practicing casting different lures and weights and reading surf fishing books and watching tutorial videos.

I'm planning on using some of my large amount of vacation time to go to a coast for surf fishing, so I too would like to know more about it. I invite you to share resources with me by private message and encourage you to post what you learn fishing North Carolina.

For my surf fishing adventure, I just bought more surf fishing rods, Penn reels and lots of lures and tackle. How much time do you have before you leave?

I invite you to practice surf casting with me. I have everything we need for you to get a feel of the various types of surf casting equipment. My thinking is that I want to be skilled with surf casting by practicing here before I spend vacation time and money to go surf fishing.

A friend told me yellow fin tuna have been caught recently surf fishing, so that has me looking for online resources to get a feel for it and particularly seasonal aspects of various fish runs and good locations to consider for planning my surf fishing vacation.

I used to visit Emerald Isle NC when I was on the east coast. My uncle was an avid shore fisher. The bait shops have really good info for the most part.

He would bring out rod stands and WEIGHT up squid or blood worms to bounce off the bottom or drift or just sit. Your battling the surf, obviously, so you need a good amount of weight, but try to fish the slack water at the intlets when the waters going out and in or shore cast when the tides are coming in/out. High tides tough. It's always good to get on the bays when the tides high because of the water coming in through the inlets.

Coolest fish I got was a Robin fish out of Sea Isle City, NJ on a jig I think tipped with a blood worm, that was in the bays. Use your fish sense, fish there still like structure.

There are a couple of fishing shops there. They will help you get the right gear and bait. Catching crabs is fun too. They have a daily fishing report. Depending on the weather and tide, things can change daily.
