We started out where we wanted to go, knowing the lake would be crowded. We settled on a usually reliable spot for small keepers, only to get there and find three other boats already in the slough. We started down the bank and on the third cast I caught a 13.5 inch largemouth on a worm. At that point, it seemed only a matter of time before we loaded the boat. Boy was I wrong. We fished the slough for another hour, catching three more fish before moving to a marina, along with another three boats. We caught a few fish but once again, they were in the 13-13.5 inch range. As the lightning got close, we enjoyed even more company. As the sky cleared, Dusty had several blow-ups on a buzzbait that would not hook up. I then boated three more fish...all short. Finally around midnight, we headed back to the original slough to find two boats still there. As one left we moved to the back and shortly after I boated two more fish that were short. Dusty then had a huge buzzbait blow up that reminded you of the great white jumping through the air to grab a seal, but no hookup. Caught two more fish before heading back empty handed. Ended up with 14 fish, but none would measure. I commented to Dusty that the 30 pounds of ice we bought could have been of better use, but at least it kept our drinks cold. Fish caught on Missile Worm, Missile Da Bomb, and LFT Lures Ring Fry. Still waiting on that nighttime spinnerbait bite that seems to help me every summer. On a side note...even though everywhere we fished there were boats, everyone was courteous and respectful of each other. Kudos...
