Oldest son and I took a trip up to Hyrum this past Tuesday. Was hoping for cooler (than Willard) water and air temps. We got that, sort of. And was hoping for fewer power squadron boats being mid week. We got that, till about 930 AM. Picked up probably 2 dozen small perch, and 2 trout. All released.

Today got out on WB at 818 A.M. from the south marina (sorry TD didn't snag up your missing fin [:/]) but just 10 min. on the water, boated a nice Wiper. Caught 2 more, but hours apart. First one was on that #5 Shad Rap in the "Hot Steel" color. That lure has been a pretty steady producer the past month. At least 1 Wiper on it most every time I put it in the water. Even caught the second trout at Hyrum on it Tuesday.

I think I actually saw the Ranger boat out on the water today. He looked to be checking a lot of the bigger boats. He was coming straight at me, and about 1/4 mile away, he heeled over to the left, ran up close to a wake board boat that was sitting dead in the water while they changed out boarders. Saw him make about 8 or 10 runs up to other boats down in the south west pocket, and then turn of short before actually coming alongside any of them. Must have been trying to find a specific boat..........?[:/]

Second Wiper boated today was a bit deformed looking. Short with a kind of hunch back.

All 3 released to go steel Tube Dude's bait again next time he ventures up this way............[sly]

[#0000FF]Nice work.

By the way, part of the reason I had bait stealers was because I was using some redside shiners I had caught along with chubs at Scofield. Those things turn soft and the fish just slurp them off the hooks. Never missed a hookset on the chubs.

Hey Tin Can -- good to get your report...I've never hit Hyrum in the summertime, but enjoy the ice up there...hope the perch grow a little by wintertime! Good pics...that one wiper almost looks like whirling disease..hope W.B. doesn't have that problem...Do you think we still have a few weeks for a better bite to start up again? I definitely want to get out there again, as a couple of the members showed me some of the possibilities there earlier this year...tks, and Guluk...

I don't ice fish, so can't comment on that. Whirling disease ...? isn't that limited to Trout ? I don't know that answer either. A few weeks for a better bite...at Willard? A better bite at Willard can be just minutes or hours or days away, or not. Can never be sure. That's probably why I fish WB just about every week, every chance I get.
