Planning on hitting Willard Bay tomorrow in the morning. I've taken four trips up there this year. 1 amazing trip, one alright trip. The last two trips nothing in the boat. Any suggestions on the best way to get into those wipers. I've usually use a bottom bouncer/worm harness, and it works alright. Any suggestions, best places to hit this time of year.

Any ideas if downriggers/lead core line helps at all?

I'VE had good success with rapalas. each day seems to be different on which color works best but for the most part #5 in blue and in shad. I know some have been having good success with the fire tiger color as well. As far as where to fish. Its been somewhere different everyday for me. The past couple weeks i've noticed they are getting a little deeper and further from the dikes. Good luck and have fun!

One of my most recent wipers. There a ton of fun!

Tons of fun. Addicted to those Wipers. Makes for such a great meal too. Getting sick of going after trout. So yeah.......Bring on the wipers. Just want to get better at the wipers, and willard bay.

Any ideas if lead core line/downriggers help at all?

Lead core can work for sure, this time of the year I've had good success using it to get deep. To find the fish, I'd suggest fishing the areas you have caught them before but cover as much area as possible in your search. Once you locate active fish, cover that area well before moving on. Its not unusual to find more active fish in the same area as you catch the first one. When fishing deep with lead core try crawfish pattern lures or firetiger. I usually let out line until the lure starts hitting the bottom, then reel up a bit but keep an eye out for any change in the water depth, so you don't get snagged, if the bottom comes up quick. Good luck.

This time of year is always tough to get into them like we do in the spring when they really turn on. But, when I do target them late summer, I use my deeper diving cranks and like to use the ones that rattle for a little added arousal (in theory).
It is that time of year to start watching for diving birds and hoping for a boil! I have yet to get into a full blown wiper boil since I moved here, but I have picked up wiper trolling areas where I watch the terns diving for shad. I always keep a rig ready for casting for that day I finally see the water churning with shad being schooled up by hungry wipers!

Sometimes doing a sonar search before dropping a hook, can locate fish quicker. Then try planner boards when the fish get spooked.
Yes I do like lead core lines, or tadpole divers, to get down. Good luck let us know. I'll be fishing friday, but never on Saturday
