It's the time of year again that everyone just gets the "ITCH" to go "FRAWGIN" on the "Big-G". The grass has started to mat up and the areas that aren't matted are showing good signs of making some great scattered grass spots that will still be very effective for some Snag Proof Frog action. I've included a couple of pics that will help along in covering several different situations and patterns in thick mucky matted grass to scattered grass. When you mention "froggin" the first thought is just taking a regular Snag Proof Frog and looking for the thickest, muckiest matted area you can find and go to work. "BUT" there are a couple of factors to take in consideration when looking for these areas. The first thing you look for are "blow holes", the areas where a bass has shown itself by blowiing through the mat to eat a bait fish or what ever might have been on the mat during that time when the fish got hungry. These areas can show the presence of some activity, and when you combine this with the familiar "popcorn" or "rice crispie" sound it can be a sure bet that there is some feeding activity going on in that area. The familiar popping sound you hear are bait fish feeding on bugs, etc. that may be on top of the mat and this kind of activity will attract Bass into these areas to feed on the bait fish. Bobbys Perfect Frog by Snag Proof is a great way to start covering the thick matted areas. This frog is designed to fish these areas without fouling and when a "Big-Un" explodes through the mat to engulf your frog it also has a great hook that's designed for an effective hook set and less chance of losing a fish. Make sure you also have the right heavyweight equipment for this kind of fishing, and I suggest a 7'6" Extra Heavy Action Hammer rod with 65# Vicious Braided line to ensure getting these fish out of these thick matted areas without any problems. When you encounter areas where you have scattered grass instead of your basic thick mat, don't discard the fact that fish exist in these areas also. These areas can be very productive and Snag Proof has the arsenal to cover these areas also. The Snag Proof Buzz Frog and Poppin Phattie can produce some exciting action when you have areas that the grass is scattered but still has some thickness to it. The Buzz Frog can go in areas that a normal buzz bait can't go through without fouling, and the explosions you get on this bait, "WOW"!. The advantage of fishing a Snag Proof Buzz Frog in these areas that it has over a normal buzz bait is that you can pause this bait during your retrieve to where a normal buzz bait will sink, the buzz frog will float and give you the oppotunity to "twitch" the lure which can create an "explosion". The same goes with the Poppin Phattie, it can be fished in areas that a regular popping plug can't be fished without fouling. This bait can be worked erratically by popping along aggressively or just a few slow pops, then pause, and a few slow pops again, then hold on! These are just a few of Snag Proofs line of great weedless lures and a couple of patterns to use while fishing them. I hope these tips will help in finding a "HAWG" explode through the grass to engulf your Snag Proof Frog, or Buzz Frog, or even Poppin Phattie. Check out their website at www.snagproof.com and see what they have to offer from weedless baits to apparel and instructional videos like "Turning Frogs into Toads". A great time of year for anglers all over is approaching, and it's time to go "FRAWGIN"!!! Get out and enjoy it! Mike Carter
