So if Tin Can deletes the portion about giving the fish away, does that mean TD needs to delete his reference about Tin Can giving a fish away, and now I would need to delete this post about TD commenting about Tin can and the fish give away?

Really...? Paperwork......? to give a dead fish to a couple kids that had not had any luck, and said their Dad would cook it for them? Now maybe that wasn't the truth, but I don't know that. I didn't give that fish away "on the water", I was already hooked up and ready to leave the ramps when they ask me if I had caught anything. Is Wiper a protected species? If so, and an authority person is going to make an issue out of this, then I expect them to do more aggressive enforcement of all the happy harvesters at the inlet every spring that are snagging, and keeping way more than a days limit of fish. They haven't even paid the daily entrance fee, or a annual pass fee, and would bet that many of them don't even have a valid fishing license.
I buy a license every year, I buy an annual pass every year, I adhere to every state law concerning boating safety, registration, insurance, required equipment, invasive species, I am ethical angler that doesn't cull out smaller dead fish (of any species) in order to keep a bigger one, and IF and WHEN I keep fish to take home, I ONLY keep the legal limit, and many times less.
Pat if I sound agitated, I am. I respect your vast experience and knowledge of the fishing in this state. But really......? If you had not said anything, would anyone else have even known that I made a legal technicality mistake? Maybe next time you would be so kind as to clue me (or others) in a PM. But thanks anyway for the info.

[#0000FF]I was not picking on you, my friend. But there is a regulation that specifically covers "Donating". And if you didn't know about it there are probably a lot of others who do not.
[/#0000FF]
Donating
Utah Code § 23-20-9
The following are the only places where
you may donate or give protected aquatic
wildlife or its parts to another person:

The permanent residence of the donor

The permanent residence of the recipient

A meat locker

A storage plant

A meat-processing facility
You may not donate fish in the field.
A written statement of donation must
be kept with the protected aquatic wildlife
or parts that includes all of the following
information:

The number and species of protected
aquatic wildlife or parts donated

The date of donation

The license or permit number of the
donor

The signature of the donor

There are a lot of infractions that are worse than this, in my opinion. And I won't openly admit to violating this rule myself. But I do disagree with not being able to hand off a fish or two to a youngster or some other deserving individual who has greater need of a fish than the one who caught it. The law was passed to help curtail the practice of family or group fishing, in which one or two of the better anglers in a group catches everybody else's limit. The limits are set for a reason...and not just as a suggestion.

Congrats on a fine day. So, did you catch some trolling and some on mussels?
[signature]
Caught the Walleye trolling a Fire Tiger. All the rest on either mussels or worms

I didn't see the redacted posts, but I can surmise what happened. If I'm correct, you did a good thing, Forest. Fine points of law notwithstanding.

Sleep well, and shrug at any detractors.

It's time.[Image: forget-this-gif-o.jpg.gif]

Well Rocky, thought I had a darn good day on the water, did what I thought was a generous thing, went home feeling pretty good. Learned I shouldn't have done that good deed. Didn't loose any sleep over it, but will know better next time. I understand the reason behind that law, maybe, but I think it would be pretty petty and mean spirited to enforce that in my specific situation.
[signature]
Don't feel too badly. I will admit that I have violated that law many times and will continue doing so. If I get ticketed, I will readily accept the ticket and pay the fine, still feeling good about sharing with a family or especially a youngster.
[signature]
I agree with this fully. Civil disobedience. I will also NOT be participating in catching everyone else in my party's fish just to keep extra. Spirit of the law not the letter of the law.

What Kent is saying is correct for a lot of us but the key to doing it is, just don't post about it on line. As I said in my PM to you, the DWR read this site all the time, posting about doing illegal activity can get you into trouble, so if you think your feelings got hurt by TD telling you did was illegal, just think about it like this, how would you feel if the DWR came knocking at your door and gave you a ticket. It has happened before. We are all friends here and no one wants to see you get into trouble for helping out a kid but please be careful about what you post here. I'm in no way condoning illegal activity with what I telling you Forest, just looking out for a friend.

Well, like several other things that are plain dumb in Utah, now I know about it. And as others have said, I don't plan to stop being generous to kids that are obviously less fortunate. I just won't post it or even talk about it. Kind of like towing someone back in even when the reason for needing a tow is their own stupidity. It's paying it forward. I hope I never need assistance on the water because I've done something dumb, but I would also hope someone would render assistance no matter the reason.
[signature]
Oh yeah, wasn't a case of hurt feelings Curt. I'm damn near 61 and been past that for at least a couple decades. I was incredulous about 1 fact:
1. That it really is illegal to give away ONE BLOODY FISH

I thought this was the state of charity and good will.
[signature]
It's illegal in California too. And the reason is simple. There are people who will catch more than their limit, knowing that they can donate the smaller fish to someone who hasn't had as much luck that day.

Nope... It's all about rules, regulations, and blind obedience. Doing your own thinking is very discouraged. That's already been done for you.[crazy]
