[#800000]It was absolutely wonderful - weather wise - to be out on East Canyon today. The temps were perfect in the mid 60's and the wind hardly showed at all. The fishing was perfect.[/#800000]

[#800000]However, the CATCHING sucked - big time! Not a trout in sight. We marked an absolute TON of gas bubbles, but very few fish. We did manage to get one fish in the boat. Now remember, we're fishing in East Canyon Reservoir.[/#800000]

[#800000]It appears that the wiper plant in there has taken hold.[/#800000]

We were there also.. blue and white tri-hull....we also caught two wipers.in addition to three trout.. but the trout was long time in between hits.. saw very few trout on the finder..looking forward to some wiper fishing next year

It's sure nice seeing those wipers growing really fast.

Sounds like some good experiences at lots of different lakes...so do you think we can pull one of those up through the ice ?? 2 poles, 1 rigged for trout, 1 for wipers? Might be fun...
. . . so do you think we can pull one of those up through the ice?
[#800000]Couldn't hurt to try![/#]

I would think that methods that are used for the white bass through the ice would also work on wipers.

Active jigging with things like sonars and cast masters.

Do they cruise around suspended at certain depths like trout or do they go deep and just hide? Haven't heard many reports of folks catching them through the ice on Willard like they do perch and crappie. So yes, it's going to be interesting.[/#800000]

Hard sayin, not knowin...

Willard and East are very different water bodies. Going deep at Willard is up on a point in East. Water clarity different, current different in the old channel vs no channel.

I would suspect that they will suspend, but who knows what depth that would be at. Cruising at 15' or holding at 60'. They are not as cold of water species as trout, so a good thermometer could be a big help. Difference between 33 degree water and 39 or even warmer could make big differences in location. Then there is the forage ?. Will they follow and stay close or roam until they find a pod to feed on then settle in while the food relocates.

That is one reason that I think active jigging with things like Sonars will work, the vibration could bring them in from a long way off in the still/quiet water under the ice.

There is only one way to tell for sure, see you there!
