So I have a renewed hatred for the "power squadron" I will get to this in the later part of my post...
I started my trip by stopping off at Starvation for some fishing on Friday night. When I got there a gentleman was reeling in a nice rainbow and had 2 on his stringer. I'm guessing all around 19". He eventually left and another person came and went. I was able to catch 2 smallies. One was small and the other was a decent size. That was it for Starvation.
I then went to Willard in hopes of a walleye or a crappie. I started at the north marina where another guy was heading out to the marina inlet the same time as me. Seemed like he had fished there somewhat regularly and said this year had been kinda slow for him. He eventually left with no bites and I did the same shortly after he left. I then went to the south marina and fished the dike wall down to the south eastern corner with no luck. I decided to head back and fish while working my way back. I finally got a hit just at the SE corner on my way out. A decent sized cat(for me). I then decided to head back and maybe hit the north marina as I didn't have a lot of time. On my way back I saw what I thought was a school of carp as I've seen carp school up, but it was actually catfish eating along the bank. I would stand about half way down the dike and cast over them and bring my minnows into them. I had one break my line cause I didn't check my line after one of the fish was landed. I grabbed my other pole as it was already rigged and noticed the line was all cracked from the fish, so I quickly rerigged it and went after the fish again. About this time a ski boat starts heading my way with a person in tow. Now there are only about 2-3 other boats on the entire lake and it seems like I'm the only one shore fishing outside the marinas. The boat continues my direction barely pass my spot and turns around. This cause a large wake to hit my spot and spooks all the kitties away and I can no longer spot any fish... In the end it was a great fishing experience, too bad it had to be ruined by boaters...
