UDWR Bear Lake Fishing Report:

Launching is available at the Utah State Park marina, First Point, Cisco Beach and Rainbow Cove boat ramps. The water level at Rainbow Cove is becoming low, so if you are launching a larger boat, be careful about not backing in your trailer so far that it will go off the end of the concrete ramp. There is a large drop off at the end of the ramp and could ruin a trailer axle. The Bonneville Whitefish spawning run has finally started. Fish are just beginning to be taken in good numbers and the fishing should continue to improve during the next week and last for about 2 weeks or so. Water levels are lower this year so you may need to try different spots to find the fish, but the best luck should be off Cisco Beach where there is plenty of rocky shoreline habitat that these fish prefer. Use 1/8 or 1/16 ounce jigs tipped with a small piece of worm and fished along the bottom. Try fishing close to shore in water 5’-15’ deep. The nice part is you can catch these fish from shore as well as boats. Anglers are also picking up some whitefish fishing off the Utah State Park marina.

Fishing for Lake Trout and Cutthroat Trout has been very good for anglers jigging with tube jigs tipped with cisco or sucker meat. Try off the rockpile near Ideal Beach, the rockpiles just north of the Utah State Park marina, and off South Eden/Cisco Beach in water depths of 30-65’. Anglers are also doing fairly well trolling with downriggers in these same locations using both Rapalas and Flatfish. Anglers casting off Cisco Beach and the State Park marina can catch lakers and Cutthroat Trout using spoons or large spinners at this time of year.

Please remember, all Cutthroat Trout that are caught and don’t have a healed fin clip must be released. Large Lake Trout are not very good eating and take a long time to reach large sizes, and while they are legal to keep, many anglers are encouraging other anglers to release them.

Fishing for Rainbow Trout continues to be good. The water is colder so, you fishing with larger nymphs or wooly buggers. Casting small spinners with gold blades in size #0 or #1 in dark colors are also working well. Bait anglers are also catching a few fish using worms under a bobber The pond is full.

Laketown Reservoir

Laketown Reservoir anglers are also reporting good fishing for both Rainbow Trout and a few Cutthroat Trout. Weeds have died back and access for fishing is good. Brown or green wooly buggers and nymphs have been working the best, but casting with small spinners tipped with a worm or meal worm can work well too. A 4 wheel drive is recommended to access this reservoir since the road is rough and snowy.
