I made the white fish pilgrimage to Bear Lake on Tuesday. To my dismay, I found that the boat ramps on the East side had been pulled out of the water, probably on Monday. With the water temperature at 42 degrees and the forecast for several days of warmer weather, the question is why? Couldn't the Bear Lake State Park folks wait until after the white fish spawn?

At the least, not having the ramps in the water is hard on boats. At the worst, it is dangerous and potentially deadly.

The fishing was good. Our best setup was an 1/8 oz Tube Dude wobble head jig with a 2" twist tail grub tipped with a small piece of night crawler or sucker meat. Sucker worked best. I managed a limit of white fish and one nice cutthroat. Definitely had to work for what we got.

Thanks for the report and warning. Pretty hard to launch or retrieve a boat in the wind without a dock to help keep the boat off the rocks. Thanks J

Yup, they're pulled and it sucks! With this weekends weather forecast and the insane cold it will be a very dangerous situation over there and motoring across the lake from the marina will be dangerous as well. This pretty much put a nail in the coffin for the remaining few days of the whitefish run. It has started to slow down a bit anyway.

They were pulled last Saturday already. With the weather that day there was no way I was going to attempt to launch. Tried from shore for about 30 minute in the Cisco Beach area, but the wind was blowing right into us and the try was short lived. Too bad, last year we had a blast and landed our best laker to date during the whitefish run. Heading up this weekend to fetch the snowmobiles...may have to give it a try on the way back if the weather allows.
