Scofield State Park will be hosting the annual ice fishing tournament on December 31st. That is New Years Eve. The ice is thick and ready for the tournament.
Just as in years past we will have prizes for the top 5 rainbow trout caught. We will also give prizes for the top 3 of most chub caught.

Thanks for the post. I would like encourage other BFT members to take part in this event. We all know Scofield Reservoir is struggling with lower quality trout fishing conditions now, due largely to the numbers of chubs in the lake that compete directly with the young trout stocked in the water. The DWR is considering a number of options to address the issues at Scofield. In the meantime, nothing is going to happen quickly....so make the best of a bad situation. Catch and remove some chubs. You can use them for bait at any water where bait is allowed. They are also great for your tomato plants. Bury them deep so the neighborhood cats don't dig them up before spring.
If we can have 200 anglers out there removing some of those chubs, it will all be good for the fishery. On the bright side, the fishing can be pretty fast action if you are targeting chubs and it would be enough action to keep kids interested. Most youngsters don't care what they catch as long as they are pulling something through the hole.
I am going to try to get up there for this event if I can arrange a work schedule change. I would be glad to pass along my chub catching pointers to anyone willing to listen.
