I was planing on spending January and February at Lake Mead . Was wondering if anyone had any winter fishing advice? Going to go out of Callville Bay and Echo bay. Any help would be great!

O man I sure miss chasing the strippers down there on my friends house boat in the summer!! We caught plenty of strippers in the back of many coves back in those days

:-). But stripers can be caught in the winter along the channels threw out the lake! Chumming is a a must during cold water months, it helps to keep the schools around. But I can't be much help in those specific area's of the lake hopefully someone else can chime in and help you you out.

LMB and SMB would be a bear this time of the year. Even during the "good" months LMB and SMB have been tough the last couple years with the water going down.

Striper wise out of Echo head north about half way to Stewarts Point and troll on the west side. Lots of areas one can troll that isn't hundreds of feet deep. Plenty of room to even run planer boards if one wanted to. Then all the way about as far as one can go to Overton plenty of areas one can troll. White 4-5 inch swimbaits on 1-2oz swimbait hooks and the usual assortment of Jerk type of baits will fair well (I lean towards anything Lucky Craft but on the spendy side compared to others). Speed doesn't seem to be anything special. I usual go at what my boat will idle at. 2.3 - 2.5 mph but have bumped it up to 3.5mph and still done well. You won't get as deep with the swimbaits going that fast.

Out of Callville the only spot I have done well at multiple times is straight across the lake from the marina to the east shore line in Indian Canyon Cove.

Out of Callville or Boulder head to Vegas Bay between them (I'd launch out of Boulder between the two). You have to be handy with a casting net (4 foot radius is the biggest you can have) and catch some Threadfin Shad in the very back/as far west as one can go in fairly shallow water. A live Shad verse a dead bait dangling below the boat just off the bottom will outcatch 20 to 1 unless a big school cruises by then they are greedy and whatever is dangling will get gobbled up quickly regardless.

I haven't been out in months so can't add much real time info.

The Nevada board has been fairly dead for sometime now. But any info in it from now to many years back will all be fairly valid on catching stripers. I have plenty of posts that go back many years.
