I have recently inherited a 20" boat with a 100hp merc from my father(who I only recently met)He is passing away from a terminal desease and It's been good to have a chance to get to know him before he goes.(I was raised by my grandparents, long story)Any way the boat needs some tlc on the motor, could be minor or it could be major. My question is anyone out there a boat machanic who might be interested in trade work? or trade + cash?Or any used outboards should it be needed? I'm a general contractor who does remodeling and custom homes,my web sight is bluemb.com to ck out my info. Also If anyone knows anyone who might be interested in the above, or any good mechanic references would be appreciated. It should be apperant that I know nothing about boat motor repairs. Also I will be selling te boat I have now. It's a 1958 fiberglass with a trailer and a 35hp evenrude I took it in on a trade last year from a 85yr old man and it runs great,I had it on the berry and scofield several times last year with no problems at all.All it needs is a steering cable and maybee a tune up(new spark plugs)If interested pm me.I would like to get $800. Thanks Lonnie

Shoot danzilla a PM. He does a lot of work for the board people here and does a great job at it I might add. And his prices are very reasonable!!!

Sorry to hear about your father.

Danzilla is the guy you need to talk to, he is the only one that I know of that works on other people's boats. I think a lot of us can help you with advise though, what is the motor doing or not doing? WH2

I have a early 1970's 115 hp merc outboard, and danny has helped me out tons on getting that thing in working order, I am now just awaiting soft water to take it out on its maiden voyage in 2years.

Thanks for the info guys. I e-mailed danzilla, hopefully he can give me some cost guesstimates.I don't have any idea what problems it might have,it's in sacremento and I have to run out and retrieve it.I only know its app. a 20 footer with a 100hp merc and really needs to be fished from.My father picked it up specifically with me in mind(I barely know my father)And it's been great to get to know him these last few weeks. He told me about the boat this past week end.Anyway thanks for your help

How long has it been since it's been used? Before laying out cash for a mechanic I'd drain out the old gas, add new (premium), add a gas additive like Sea Foam (available at NAPA), add new spark plugs (don't just replace with what's in there, but check with the mfg to replace with recommended plug), check injector oil (or if manual mix add 100% synthetic), check/charge the battery, take it to the lake and crank away. If it was well-cared for, you won't need to do much. But if she was neglected you will have some info to take to Danzilla or other marine mechanic.

Take this opportunity to check for leaks, steering/throttle cables, lights, wiring, pumps, other electronics, etc.

Also, coming from Sacramento you may need to rejet the carbs. And you'll most likely need to reprop. Keep a close eye on the tach, though I doubt you'll be able to get it over the max RPM's, which is probably 5400 or 5600. More than likely you'll be overpropped and need to size down to compensate for the loss of HP from the elevation difference.

Enjoy your new boat--and relationship!
