Re: [MrShane] Hooked on Utah breaking the law - TubeDude - 08-12-2019 [#0000FF]I interacted with Doug Miller on several occasions. He sorta reminded me of another (now departed) friend...Merlin Olsen. Doug had a great attitude and genuinely enjoyed doing the shows he did. The only downside was that he was probably responsible for a whole lot of increased traffic on some waters. I have heard a few negative comments about him on that subject over the years. But there is no disputing that he helped a lot of newbie anglers become better anglers...and added to the skills of others already somewhat experienced. [/#0000FF] [#0000FF] [/#0000FF] [#0000FF]Too bad he did not take advantage of the availability of colonoscopies...before it was too late. A good lesson for all of us...especially those of us past the midpoint of our expiration date. The DWR is very well aware of this issue. [signature] Re: [wormandbobber] Hooked on Utah breaking the law - Browntrout - 08-13-2019 According to my cable guide the show was first shown 9/19/09. If this is correct - What was the reg for Miners back then? [signature] Re: [SkunkedAgain] Hooked on Utah breaking the law - catchinon - 08-13-2019 It is not nearly as big a pain in the butt as some people led me to believe []. Just do it. [signature] Re: [catchinon] Hooked on Utah breaking the law - SkunkedAgain - 08-13-2019 My wife is after me to get it done so I’m sure it will happen. I don’t even have a Dr anymore. Mine retired six or seven years ago so I guess I ought to start by finding one of them. Don’t think the kidney stone guy is the one that does the other plumbing is he. If so I might have a guy I can see. Thanks for the encouragement, I need it. Later Jeff [signature] Re: [wormandbobber] Hooked on Utah breaking the law - Fritzfishin - 08-13-2019 THROW HIM IN PRISON! If this is correct - What was the reg for Miners back then?[/quote] The show aired on Saturday evening. It was a new show that was taped in the last couple weeks. But, to answer your question -- the regs were the same in 2009. They've been the same for ~20 years. [signature] Re: [wormandbobber] Hooked on Utah breaking the law - Cowboypirate - 08-13-2019 Its fascinating how this conversation evolved from a take down on some illegal activity to an inspection of our colons. There are likey a hundred puns that are applicable, but I will abstain and simply add to the recommended to go get checked. My brother is alive today because he did. I get checked every couple years owing to high risk. It's not so bad. I save up all my good puns to thoroughly embarrass my wife and the nurses before the procedure. And I am a highly skilled professional at being a so stupid dork when I come out of the knockout drugs. My wife says I am highly inappropriate and embarrassing. Good times. [signature] Re: [PBH] Hooked on Utah breaking the law - Browntrout - 08-13-2019 I thought you would have the answer. Thanks PBH. [signature] Re: [wormandbobber] Hooked on Utah breaking the law - fryman1 - 08-13-2019 I was watching. I usually watch Adam Eakle. I was channel surfing and saw they were at Minersvillle so I had to keep watching to see how they did. As soon I saw they were tipping the wedding rings and squids with bait, I got really excited and went right to my fishing guidebook to see if the regulations down there had changed. That would really make the trip down there worth it, especially during ice season. Nope no changes in the latest 2019. Then I thought maybe there was some kind of updated amended thing out on that and I couldn't find anything. Then I continued to watch to see if he was going to keep a bow under 22. He at least got that part right and mentioned the size restriction but it was kind of funny as he mentioned that you need to check your regulations down there due to the slot limits. I am sure you will now have a few anglers head down there and they will be tipping with bait. Then when the fish cop asks them how they did and what they used to be so successful. I can hear it now. "We were tipping wedding rings and squids with crawlers." Fish Cop- "You can't do that here. This is artificial flies and lures only" Fisherman- Well they did it on the tv show, "Hooked on Utah" Whoops! It might be good to have Wildlife spend the next few Saturdays down there letting people know. I would hope that "Hooked on Utah" could at least make things right on their next episode to have Gary apologize for the mistake and give out the correct info. Well it is still a fun place to troll buggers on sinking line for those big bows. It was great to see the water level up. [signature] Re: [Browntrout] Hooked on Utah breaking the law - Jedidiah - 08-13-2019 Utah actually has a document library online, https://digitallibrary.utah.gov/awweb/awarchive?item=13846. People like me get obsessive about that kind of history but then again, you never know when it might be useful to know if regs were changed....maybe knowing when there was a complete die off or something similar. Here's the page from the 2009 guidebook that has the Minersville regs, just for reference. Edit: forgot to attach picture. [signature] Re: [Browntrout] Hooked on Utah breaking the law - Fishrmn - 08-13-2019 Looks like the first year for Wipers in Minersville was 2011. So they wouldn't have been catching Wipers in 2009. Only really irritating thing is listening to him reel in fish after fish with the clicker on. [signature] Re: [SkunkedAgain] Hooked on Utah breaking the law - richyd4u - 08-14-2019 Doug Miller was one of my best friends neighbors, lived right across the street. I remember going over to his house and hearing his most recent fishing/hunting tales. I vividly remember him pulling in his driveway one evening with a MONSTER cougar he had just shot...so cool. "The Host" (and especially his wife) drive me crazy. I can't stand to listen to either one of them. "The Host" comes over to our SH reservoir constantly, and I've had him move in on me several times when I was nailing nice ones, enough to get me and my boat in his shots. Greg is a nice, respectful guy...so I know it has to be "The Host" doing that. He handles fish terribly and is always fishing private waters like it's some kind of accomplishment catching nice fish on them. I stopped watching him a long time ago...time for a better UT fishing show! [signature] Re: [wormandbobber] Hooked on Utah breaking the law - AmyC - 08-14-2019 We realize the latest Hooked on Utah episode upset many anglers, and we wanted to follow up with you. Our officers have met with the show's host, and he has been cited for the infraction. On this week's show, he plans to address what happened at Minersville and will correct last week's misinformation. Just as a reminder to anyone who's been reading this discussion, the special regulations at Minersville are as follows: Minersville Reservoir, Beaver County — Limit 1 trout over 22 inches. — All trout 22 inches or smaller must be immediately released. — Artificial flies and lures only. — Cement outlet channel between the dam and spillway pond, approximately 55 feet long, is CLOSED. The daily limits at Minersville are as follows: — Smallmouth and/or largemouth bass: A combined total of 6. — Wiper: Limit 6. And please remember to check the current fishing regulations at https://wildlife.utah.gov/guidebooks/2019_fishing.pdf before fishing at any Utah waterbody. Thanks!
