Re: [kandersonSLC] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - orvy - 05-02-2013 That looks about like the same color as the stuff I have. [signature] Re: [kandersonSLC] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - TroutBumDave - 05-02-2013 I tie this pattern (didn't know it had a name) with a larva lace weave. I've never done purple, but black and chartreuse is awesome, and so is dark brown and light brown. Here's a quick how-to on weaving the larva lace, although it's for a different pattern, the idea is the same. It has a perfect application for this particular fly. http://www.flycraftangling.com/index.asp?p=145&szArticleButtonCommand=view&nArticleID=50 [signature] Re: [kandersonSLC] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - flygoddess - 05-02-2013 Here is the one I use More like the Purple on this page http://www.hareline.com/08webimages/MCC.jpg [signature] Re: [flygoddess] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - DKStroutfitter - 05-03-2013 Real Fly Tiers don't use sissy colors like Lavender. We use Purple.[] Just having some fun on a Friday afternoon. I need to tie some of these up myself. Thanks for the tips. [signature] Re: [DKStroutfitter] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - flygoddess - 05-03-2013 It all reminds me of the paint commercial: http://youtu.be/u5FgTwsUgiI But "Lavendar" is cool. like "Sage" all natural[cool] [signature] Re: [kandersonSLC] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - tubbyama - 05-05-2013 Cool Fly, is there any hackle on these like on wolly buggers or is it just a maribou wing above the cheniel body? Thanks. [signature] Re: [tubbyama] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - flygoddess - 05-05-2013 No hackle, Marabou tail and wing. You can add flashabou to the tail. Also a sinking line helps. Though for some reason, FG's version caught twice as many as mine. [][/quote] I had a pretty good day on Bryant's Fork with the purple showgirl, from the looks of both of your flies in the pictures, they are tied a little different, FG's looks to be tied with the marabou swept back the length of tail, yours seem to be only the length of the shank. Don't know if that would make a difference, but I too tie mine back even with the tail . [signature] Re: [up2nogood] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - kandersonSLC - 05-06-2013 I tied mine based on attached photo from Henry's Lake Anglers that represents this to be the Bill Schiess Purple Showgirl. At least on Saturday they seemed to prefer the wing marabou being same length as tail. Next ones I'll do with a longer wing. [inline purple-showgirl.JPG] [signature] Re: [kandersonSLC] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - flyfish_88 - 05-10-2013 just tied up some of the these last night for the opening of Henrys Lake in a couple weeks. [signature] Re: [flyfish_88] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - flygoddess - 05-10-2013 Don't forget RENEGADES! [signature] Re: [flygoddess] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - TylerKunz - 05-19-2013 I'm a little late into the game here but to get the top maribou in do you just tie it down and them add chenille like a normal bugger? [signature] Re: [TylerKunz] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - flygoddess - 05-19-2013 You tie it like a normal bugger minus the hackle, then add Marabou to the top just behind the eye of the hook like a wing. I suggest to peel the fibers off the marabou, don't use the whole feather (meaning the spine) as it doesn't flow as nice. [signature] Re: [TylerKunz] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - TD1 - 05-19-2013 The top marabou (wing) is added last on the fly. So basically you tie a woolly bugger without the hackle and then tie in a clump of marabou on top of the chenille right behind the eye. [signature] Re: [TD1] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - TylerKunz - 05-19-2013 Perfect! Thanks ill give them a try [signature] Re: [flygoddess] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - kandersonSLC - 05-19-2013 [quote flygoddess]You tie it like a normal bugger minus the hackle, then add Marabou to the top just behind the eye of the hook like a wing. I wondered why mine were looking a little "stiff." Also, Schiess's book recommends a Dai-Riki 700, which is a 4x long streamer hook. I was tying on a 3x long hook. I'll get it right some day. [signature] Re: [kandersonSLC] Purple Showgirl Rocks! - flygoddess - 05-19-2013 I always buy streamer hooks for everything. Down to #18. Check Allen's site out too, plus they will answer any question fast. [signature] |
