Coming to Island Park - smells_fishy - 05-25-2017

Hello Idaho fishermen, I will be visiting Island Park for a family reunion in mid July and would like to try to do some fishing while I am there. Should I take my aluminum boat, kick boat, float tube, fish from the shore or river bank?

Any suggestions that would point me in the direction I need to go to do some homework would be greatly appreciated.

Um, are you planning to fish IP Res, one of the rivers, Henry's Lake, fly, spin, trolling, bait? The answer to your question just depends on where you want to fish, and how, with what kind of tackle.

If you're looking for suggestions on that, well, the choices are wide in the Island Park area. Again, it depends on how you want to fish. I fly fish the area in June and July. I prefer wade fishing on the river, on the ranch. Floating Box Canyon can be very good. The Buffalo River is an alternative to the big river. The upper Henry's Fork is also more "small stream." People fish Island Park Res. in all fashions with good sucess. Henry's Lake is one of the best in the country, and is fishable from any of the 3 watercraft you mentioned. Its best known in summer for fly fishing from boats and tubes/'toons. Hebgen lake is a short drive into Montana, and known for its good lake fishing. And wait . . . there's more . . . !

You'll probably get a bunch of different opinions different than mine, but the fact is there are lots of opportunites for whatever you enjoy doing. Bring your favorite craft, your favorite tackle, and then decide where to go. Fly shops abound. There's fishermen everywhere.

I'd leave the trailered boat and just bring a kick boat so you are highly mobile, but that's what I do.
