New to me Boat and motor - redfrog - 09-05-2017
Well I pulled the trigger on a boat. she's not new but if I can get the motor running it should be a fun get around fishing boat. The registration says its a 1986 MG 1950 comp. After doing some searching I think its a 1986 procraft 1950 competition bass boat. Everything looks okay. the haul looked good and I really couldn't find any rot except in one small wood spot that I can replace. I will re-due the carpet and fix a few things that I can to clean it up. Something to work on over the winter.
My big issue to work out is the motor. Its a 1986 225hp evinrude v6. I was told it has a dead cylinder. I figure the first thing I need to do is a compression test to verify that. Any suggestion from you guys that know more than I do about these things?
He also threw in two other motors. A 9hp and 35 hp merc. Said the 9hp runs and he thinks the 35 does as well. He also threw in two other props. I walked away with everything for $400.

Concrats on the new boat and a great deal. Would not be hard to check to see if there is a dead cyl, the question is, do you want someone to do the work on the eng for you or are you planning on doing it yourself?

I'm going to try myself first (best way to get to know your boat) and if I can't than I'll get some help. I figure at the price I got everything for I'm not really out much If I can't. I should be able to sell the extras for what I'm into it and have some left over for repairs.
