As seen on KSL Outdoors last week, the stripers are boiling right now, but that will end by the next couple of weeks. As always, THE source of info is Wayne's Words.

Man...the boils were EPIC at the end of August! I have never seen boils as big, that lasted as long, and had the quality of fish in them, as we did that trip. Boils the size of 3 football fields that stayed up for 4hrs straight...so fun. Sounds like the recent cold snap has pushed them down and back into the canyons. Best bet is to cruise early looking for any potential boils and try to find any schools on the graph to drop spoons down in to. Smallies have really picked up, that's another option.

This is the best resource for up to date info on the bites down there. We just got back and there weren't very many boils. The fishing was great for smallies and LMB.

Remember that the KSL show was filmed 3 weeks before it aired, but the boils could go on through October if the temperatures hold up.

But, the best time to fish Powel, is when you can get there. The fish may be back in the canyons like they are moving now, or later in the year they may be at the main channel. But they can always be caught with jigs or spoons.

Sorry, I didn't notice Rocky had already posted Wayne's info way before I did.

We were there Sept 20-23. We had hit most of the spots that the KSL guys did but we were hammered with big winds everyday. That was tough watching that episode and seeing them just crushing it just a week earlier in the same areas. Oh well, we were still fishing and at Lake Powell. Can't complain about that..

Thanks for all the feedback guys!!!

I was not familiar with Wayne's World so that really helps.

Re: [WillyBill] Lake Powell - PBH - 10-09-2017

good boils pick back up as the weather cools, and the surface temperatures cool down. We want the water surface temps to get to 60 degrees, or below. Once that happens, the boils will pick up again for a while.

Late October and early November are great for stripers and boils. This is the time when those boils turn into true BOILS. These are the aggressive, chaotic, wild, boils that anglers wait all summer for...
