Nice mods. I've been using the red hooks for years but never on the front hook, might be worth it to switch them up. One mod I've done, is put some fleathers around that back hook. You can buy them in a package of two already tied up or tie them up yourself. gives the lure a look of a real fish's tail.

I use a feathered hooks on jerkbaits fairly often...gives it a bit of extra flair.
That mod will probably end up in a future video one day.

Good video, tks.....Here's a tip for ice fishermen/ladies :
Don't assume all you gear/items inside your ice sled are secure just because they are within the walls of your sled......I just lost a valuable container of panfish jigs that apparently jossled out of my sled going up or down the rocky approach to the ice at Pineview.......Lesson: double check the security of your load, ensure all bags are zipped all the way......Guluk....

Amen. I lost an ice rod and reel at RP one year. Went back to find it and it was gone. Went over to the last people I saw come on the ice and there was kid using my rod and catching fish to boot.

Thanks for the tips in your video! I bought a large number of dressed trebles like WiperHunter2 posted and other varieties including bucktail.
Jmorfish, My gusto in sled pulling resulted in a quick start for moving a thousand yards away. Then I augured a hole and went to set up my fish finder. Next, I looked back along my tracks to see the tiny red speck in the distance of my Marcum LX-9 where I started the sled pull.
I'm good at making fishing an athletic activity!

Great post! I am definately going to try the red hook out.
I am a huge Rooster Tail spinner fan. Their only failing I think is that when you pull them down current through fast water the blades stop spinning. One mod that works great is to twist the blade. By varying the pitch you can keep it spinning in just about any water and retrieve speed. Caught a lot of nice river rock loving browns like that. Another mod that works well for kokes close to spawn is to tie on a very small treble trailing the main treble by about 1.5". Often they will "nip" at the feathered tail, I think to chase it off, but not fully committing as if feeding. Adding that little treble makes the difference between an afternoon of endlessly frustrating nibles or an incredible koke catch.

Those are looking good ron!! Just curious,how's the "draft on those? Being a big plug lure I'm just wondering if you need to tighten your releases on your rigger? I know that tail will defiantly attract some fishes.

Those sure are nice looking...I just started attempting to paint my own jigs and blades. Those lures look top notch.

we don't pull them on the riggers that much at fish lake. if we do it's just to try and keep weeds off the lure and only down a foot or 2.. they do pull hard.. we run 7 foot heavy fast action rod's with 20 lb P-LINE 100% Fluorocarbon.. on a good quality reel... the 6 and 8 inch minnows we run on the riggers but they don't pull as hard.. and at fish lake we run them about 35 to 40 feet deep..
