Bird island friday - Mooseman75 - 04-28-2018 I took the kiddos, all 4 of them after school fishing this afternoon to bird island. We didn’t plan on staying long, between dads patience and the the wind that would be coming in the evening. We embarked about 3;00 and made the journey out there. When we got there I saw my buddy bigcatch30 on his pontoon boat with his wife. I’m not sure water temps as I forgot my depth finder. My 11 yr old was the first to cast out and he hit the fish in the head. It was only out maybe 15 seconds. It was a mud cat so we threw it back. His worm was still good so he casted back out and lo and behold 20 seconds later and fish 2. I’m like wow 2 minutes here 2 fish. We kep this channel. The next fish didn’t come for another 30 minutes, it was a small channel by my 5 yr old. Another 20 minutes minutes went by and my 11 year old caught his third fish. After 20 minutes more the kids started to kick and punch each other so we called it quits. My 11 year old bragged he whooped me though I told him as a fishing guide it’s picking the spot and being the dad fixing the lines so it don’t count but he doesn’t buy it. I chalk it up as another fun day fishing with the kids and seeing how happy when they catch something....memories!!! Whenever I used to take my kids fishing I always considered the trip to be about them and not about me. It really hurts my fatherly soul when I witness dads yelling at their kids on the water...usually over some trivial little thing. You just gotta know that those kids are going to have a negative feeling about fishing for the rest of their lives. Fast forward 30 plus years and they all still love to fish. We don't get to fish together a lot now days, but the time on the water is always more important. Now that they are all grown, they all understand that fishing together is primary, and catching is a secondary bonus. Youngest son (27) and I had fun day on Bear River yesterday. And actually caught a few....[fishon] [signature] Re: [Tin-Can] Bird island friday - craigers - 05-02-2018 As a soon to be father, these posts always get me excited and give me hope that my lil' guy will like fishing as much as I do. My Dad didn't ever have much free time being a farmer and all, but he always made sure to take us fishing on the old opening days in Idaho and Utah and then when we could in the winter when the work wasn't so busy... They were the best of times... Used to always have a pole behind the seat in the pick up, so when we were by the river and moving sprinkler pipes we always had time to cast them in while we were getting the pump going... ya see what such behavior creates so be careful...
