April foolin' at Lindon 4-1-19 - TubeDude - 04-01-2019 [#0000ff]Best cattin' day in a long time...and that ain't April Fools. Launched at Lindon just after 7 am. Air temp 35 and calm. Water temp just under 52...only rising a half degree all morning. Water level still about the same as a couple of weeks ago. A bit over 3 feet deep in the harbor.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff] [/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I took 14 large chub minnows and 10 strips of carp meat. When I hit the ramp to leave at noon I had two minnows and one piece of carp meat left. Only missed two or three bites that got the bait. I got 17 cats to the net. One was my first 30 incher. Got two 27 inchers but forgot the sticker in one pic. Got one 26 and a couple of 25s and 24s. The rest were early twenty somethings.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff] [/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Saw that the buoys were out along the bubbleup line and headed that direction to see if there were any white bass or walleyes that wanted to play. Nope and nope. But the cats made up for it. Kitty City. Got lots of action on both sides of the pipe. Got the two 27 inchers back to back. Was just releasing the first...the one I forgot to shoot with a sticker...and the other rod got busy. Started putting the sticker in my pics after that. Good thing too because the 30 incher followed soon after.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff] [/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Just about all my bites came between 4-5 feet of water. Just about equal action on the big chub minnows and carp meat. The fish were on the chew and weren't being too finicky. Still a bit sluggish in the cooler water but some put up a valiant battle.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff] [/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I hadn't tried fligs until the breeze came up a little after 10. I switched one of the bait rods to a flig rod and sweetened the flig with some carp meat. Riding the "wind wipples" back to the harbor I caught my last three fish on the fligs. One was a feisty and ugly male cat. All the rest I caught today were mamas.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff] [/#0000ff] [#0000ff]No other boats on the lake today. A few bank tanglers around the dikes but I didn't see or hear them catching much. Great report and pics! [signature] Re: [TubeDude] April foolin' at Lindon 4-1-19 - Boatloadakids - 04-01-2019 That 30 incher looks fun... way to go! Now if a few more southern fishers could make a contribution we could really get the south rolling.[] I hit Lincoln with Catcarsen today, met Craig and Ben at the launch. We only caught 3 cats and the last time we met Ben and Craig they had five and they were struggling to find fish. I think we probably know where the fish went now -- they migrated to Lindon. The last few days at Lincoln have been tough fishun'. It will change soon. Carp spawning??? On our way home Catcarsen spotted some carp wallowing in the grass about a mile south of Lincoln. I dropped him off at his house and he headed back toward the lake with his bow. I doubted he would find any spawning carp this early but he said he found good shootiin'. Said he saw Ben drive by headed for home and waved at him. You couldn't miss him... wading in his underwear with no boots. If you missed him you could not possibly have missed his truck... an El Camino that is like no other in the world. Anyhow. well done Pat and hopefully a sign of good times to come. It looks like some blustery weather for the next couple of days but the future looks bright if we could just get some decent weather. I hoped that Lindon would be less molested...and it was.[/#0000FF] [#0000FF] [/#0000FF] [#0000FF]Carp. I also noticed some activity along the reedy shorelines at Lindon. They are just subscribing to "Tinder for Carp"...doing a little speed dating for when the water warms up a bit more. But if they wanna present some shots for arrow flingers then don't look a gift carp in the lips...or however that goes.[/#0000FF] [#0000FF] [/#0000FF] [#0000FF]As soon as the water gets a teeny bit higher we have to launch an assault on the Knolls. That is where there are a lot of unmolested bigguns. Always get some 30 inch plus fish there each year. [signature] Re: [Boatloadakids] April foolin' at Lindon 4-1-19 - ice_sled - 04-02-2019 I seen him on the side of the road. And seen him wave. That car is a classic. When I saw the horns I thought it was a misplaced Texan! Craig and I also seen some Carp groups on the surface. Guess it is time to bring my bow. When the walleye awake at Stary, you have my invite. Edit: I just came to my senses. I am eating Starvy walleye right now, caught last September. Much better, in my opinion, than those whisker fish. It has been a long time since we hit the Knolls together. I'll watch the water levels and weather and probably by late May or early June it should be ready to rumble. And I'll have my peeps contact your peeps. [/#0000FF] [signature] |
