The end at Lincoln - Boatloadakids - 04-08-2019

Today looked like the last decent fishing day at Lincoln for the next week or so with wind, rain, and snow predicted. Arrived at the launch at about 7:45 and had a good chat with Craig and Justin as they were getting ready to launch. The wind was mild and eventually calmed to glassy water. Water temp was 56 to 57.

Craig and Justin fished near the first spring and I went a little farther to the west and started dragging back toward the spring -- never had so much as a bump and never saw anything on the finder. I moved off to the flats about a mile east of the launch and found willing cats... lots of cats. At times it was hard to keep two poles in the water. The cats favored 3 - 5 inch carp fished on a flig. The chartreuse flig was the best producer. Lots of cats but no size to them... caught one 26 incher, the others were all cutters. Eventually ran out of bait and gave it up about noon.

Saw the carp seining crew with there caravan of boats heading for Provo. Looks like they are shutting down pending the predicted rough weather. Saw a few carp clusters in the deeper water and some activity in close to the reeds. Soon.

Was disturbed to see what appeared to be an algal bloom in the launch channel?? A heavy greenish surface scum on the water. A harbinger of misery to come??

A good day but can't wait for warmer weather and mid-60s water temps.

The best is yet to come.

[#0000FF]Hey ol' buddy, it was good to share the water with ya again...even if we were at opposite ends of the lake. Glad you got some tugs. Me too. Also ran out of bait. Some problems are better to have than others.[/#0000FF]

[#0000FF]I don't think you need to be overly concerned about an algae bloom this early in the year. The algae you saw is the annual wakeup of regular old green algae. The stuff we gotta worry about is the toxic blue-green algae that develops in warmer waters. I am hoping that if we get a good runoff this year it will flush the lake out a bit and the concentrations of nutrients will be low enough to reduce the potential for the same kind of algae blooms we have had the past few low water years.[/#0000FF]

Thanks for the report. I'm glad you found enough fish to have some fun. The bigger ones will come. It is good to keep your arms working on the smaller ones in the meantime[Wink]

Hey Lynn, man you guys sound like you were all out playing yesterday... Boy sometimes work'en just makes ya miss all the fun... but until the bills be paid, I guess this is where I have to hang out... Glad you got some tugs in and used the bait... Hate having old stinky bait when you don't get it used on the first trip out of the freezer.. I think I'm on the third or forth trip on this pack of bait and I still didn't get it used up... Probably need to throw it out and get new going, might help my catch rate...

Thanks for your report and catch ya later... Jeff
