Strawberry ice? - Kent - 04-14-2019 Anyone fish Strawberry over the weekend? If yes, how was the ice conditions near the shoreline? [signature] Re: [kentofnsl] Strawberry ice? - MACMAN - 04-14-2019 I fished Friday out from the marina, did really well- good enough to go again today. We took snowmobile’s and went for Koks. Didn’t do as well, but it was a good last ice outing (again). The ice is in pretty good shape. We never broke through the top crust and it was 18* when we got there at 7:00. Edges are good. If the top crust gets soft, and you break through with a machine, look out, I’m not sure you’ll make it off. There’s a foot of water between 10” of black ice and the 12” of garbage on the top. Good luck if you go- be smart and safe. [signature] Re: [MACMAN] Strawberry ice? - Kent - 04-14-2019 Thanks, so the road to The Strawberry Marina is open again? [signature] Re: [kentofnsl] Strawberry ice? - MACMAN - 04-14-2019 Not sure if it’s “officially” open. There’s cones piled up on the side of the road. There is no snow on the asphalt about a lane and a half wide. [signature] Re: [MACMAN] Strawberry ice? - Kent - 04-14-2019 Were there multiple vehicles there both days? [signature] Re: [kentofnsl] Strawberry ice? - MACMAN - 04-14-2019 No, we were the only ones fishing. I saw someone cruise out to the triangle on a machine on Friday afternoon. Otherwise, it was our private lake. However what is not shown, and what Macman is referring to, is the 8 to 10 inches of slush under the top 4 or so inches of frozen slush on top. I was out there on Saturday and as soon as my auger got through that top layer it drooped straight down 8 to 10 inches before its stated drilling into anything solid again. When that top layer goes, it is going to be a mess. I even had a fish I had released try and swim into that layer when i dropped him in the hole. I had to reach down and grab his tail, pull him out and shove him down to the bottom of the hole. [signature] |
