Night crawlers in the park - Jig-fisher - 04-16-2019 Went to the local park today and loaded up on crawlers when the rain subsided. Easy pickings in the sand around the playground equipment. Good day to replenish the bait supply. [signature] Re: [Jig-fisher] Night crawlers in the park - BURLEY - 04-16-2019 I gathered a bunch last week out of the gutter. I use 12 in. hemostats to pick the slimmy buggers up. It makes it easy to grab them and I don't have to bend over near as much. I got the hemostats at Smith & Edwards on their bargain isle. Or you can use peat mos, shreded newspaper or just some dirt from the garden. A combination of them works well. Poke a few holes in the lid for ventilation and store in the fridge. Just warn your wife they are there.😀 [signature] Re: [Jig-fisher] Night crawlers in the park - packfish - 04-16-2019 I picked up 1,300 over 4 days in a row every morning , and I have all those in worm beds. I also picked up a little over 600 and just dispersed over my garden . In Cache valley this has been the best and easiest year I have ever seen. I felt bad this morning at looking at the 100's on the road and just leaving them. I should get my grandkids into selling them. [signature] Re: [Jig-fisher] Night crawlers in the park - packfish - 04-17-2019 no I don't anymore- I do give a couple of friends that go up and fish the Snake quite a few dozen. Being retired I am on the water 3 to 4 times a week at least taking a few friends and their kids. Never can have enough worms- come August you will wish you did. [signature] Re: [packfish] Night crawlers in the park - SkunkedAgain - 04-17-2019 I picked up a gallon of worms last week. Hoping I can keep them alive. Put some in fridge, some in 5 gallon bucket and I’m using another gallon bucket of them as fast as I can. Has been a good year for the fishing mana from Heaven. Gotta let them breathe and keep them cool and remove the spoilage. I almost think putting wild caught ones in the fridge right away starves them, when I do catch worms I'll put them in bedding in the basement for a couple days before they go in the meat drawer. Man I tell you what, I jumped up and took a step toward the shotgun on the day my wife screamed bloody murder when she saw some of my escapees crawling around in the clear meat drawer in our fridge. My wife bought me a bait fridge for the shed after she got tired of my bait in the kitchen... It's been really nice, good to have a Dew supply where it doesn't disappear before I get to it too... Small but big enough to keep some bait anyway... Later J [signature] Re: [SkunkedAgain] Night crawlers in the park - Tin-Can - 04-17-2019 Used to have a small fridge in my garage, when I had one. Living in an apartment now. I put my cut bait in a tub on bottom shelf of fridge, make sure the lid is on good, and use a BIG BOLD Marker[b] to mark [b]BAIT [b]on the lid. For my worms, I just buy a tub at the local gas station on my way out.
