need help - r2u2 - 10-11-2019

I just got a new Helix 7with DI & SI. Looking at mounting instructions, it says it cant have any obstructions for the SI to work properly. My outboard is obviously to the side.

For anyone using SI, what suggestions do you have
to overcome this obstacle? Am I missing something?

I called Humminbird and they are closed for training today, Probably the rest of the week.

Thanks for the help!

I have to trim my outboard up a little in order for side imaging to work on my boat (otherwise the outboard blocks the starboard side of my boat). This is not a big issue for me because I only want to be going 5 mph while using side imaging.

I agree with Kent, usually when going slower and using SI, I'm using my kicker motor, so trimming up my main motor isn't an issue but if you don't have a kicker motor or an electric trolling motor that could be an issue .

Richard, I'm not sure if this is even a possibility with SI, but can it use a "thru the hull" sending unit. If so, I would guess it could be mounted dead center on the inside of your hull.
Just a thought

SI will not work thru the hull.

It would only be an issue if he can't trim his motor up a little to get it out of the way of the fish finder beam.

That's why I said it could be an issue. Some smaller motors are either all the way up or down, bigger motors have the trim function but not all, depending on the age of the motor. My last boat did not have a trim and it was a 75 hp motor. I don't remember what motor Richard has but it seems like it was a smaller motor.

I have to raise my motor to get the best image also. What I would also suggest is getting a transducer mounting board. It allows you to try many different mounting locations but only putting 2 holes in your transom. I have relocated my transducer several times to get my best image. If you don't want to spend $15 for one, you could use a old nylon cutting board if available.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I got up in the boat to see how it would be to raise and lower it (20 HP Merc) I think I will be OK for now. Maybe next year I wont have the strength.
