I'm surprised the record isn't much bigger.

RE: New State Record - Kent - 06-04-2023

Are tiger trout a relatively new species in Idaho? Utah's record is over 19 pounds.

RE: New State Record - meancuznalfy - 06-04-2023

Looks like they're only stocked in the last 10 years in a handful of lakes in the state.

Why is that?

RE: New State Record - wiperhunter2 - 06-04-2023

Tiger trout grow quick because they are sterile, so if the state had been planting them for over 10 years there would likely be much bigger ones being caught and the very fact that a state record came from such a small lake tell you there are likely much bigger ones out there that just have not been caught.

RE: New State Record - meancuznalfy - 06-04-2023

It'll be years before one bigger than that will be caught, most lakes they put them in are pretty small, so they won't get all that big, Ririe is the biggest lake they put them in, so I'd guess it'll kick out some big ones in time.

I just read an article that this record has been revoked. Apparently, this guy was fishing without a license so the state revoked the record. Wish I could remember where I saw the article, sorry.

You have to have a pretty large pair to apply for a record when you didn't buy your fishing license until the following day!

Yea, not sure how he thought he'd get away with that. With the time stamped photo and all.
