We typically see one each fall but this year so far we've seen 3 of them. They are Jerusalem crickets and have nasty pinchers. They are very unique looking for sure. Very interesting.

Used to see them as a kid quite often around Cedar City...not sure what they have to do with fish and fishing, though.

there seems to be a common thread of people who saw these in Cedar City, but I went to school at SUU and used to see them in Cedar City all the time as well.   They were all over the desert down there.  Probably good bait if you don't get bitten trying to hook one!

They are interesting looking, very unique for sure. At least they aren't destructive like the Mormon crickets can be. In the desert scape they'd have to be able to fend of scorpions and tarantulas so that must be where those pinchers may come in handy for them.

I lived quite a few years in Arizona and "met" a lot of these things.  They are interesting but you don't wanna try to make a pet out of them.  They are "solpugids"...also known as camel spiders or wind scorpions.  HERE IS A LINK    to an interesting web article on them.

Yes! As a kid living in Ogden. We would see from time to time. Used to call them sand puppy's.
