Hyrum - Tangled Up - 10-14-2024 I went to Hyrum on Saturday. First time. Pretty lake with the trees all changing in color. The fishing was not good and did not leave a positive impression. Being new to this end of the state I will keep trying different locations. RE: Hyrum - Cowboypirate - 10-14-2024 (10-14-2024, 01:35 PM)Tangled Up Wrote: I went to Hyrum on Saturday. First time. What were you fishing for? Trout or panfish/bass? RE: Hyrum - SkunkedAgain - 10-14-2024 Welcome to BFT, They have really cut back on the numbers of trout they plant in Hyrum over the last four or five years and it hasn't been near as much fun to fish as it used to be... I'm hoping the perch are getting some size back to them this year, but I haven't been there since ice last year... I think the heavy water sport usage in the summers has made it so they don't think it's as much of a fishing lake as it used to be.... I just wish they would remember how popular it is in the winter when everyone that wants to go ice fishing heads that direction... Later J RE: Hyrum - BearLakeFishGuy - 10-14-2024 I agree with Skunked Again, BUT, it would help if the State Park would even plow the ramp so you can access the reservoir like they have in the past. Their excuse was the ramp was too rough for the plows (I spoke to them personally last winter) but that is an extremely LAME excuse and just shows how lazy they have become. Why not drop the plow blade, then raise it up 2-3" then plow the ramp? Seems so logical, but logic doesn't play into their thinking. When I brought this up to the person plowing parking lots at Hyrum last winter, they just stared at me blankly and then went on with their plowing. Totally unacceptable. Last winter we had to trudge through 2-3' of snow down (and up) the boat ramp to get to the water. RE: Hyrum - RockyRaab2 - 10-14-2024 Hyrum is a dang good lake for largemouth bass. It is also, however, way too small for the wake boats they allow in there. RE: Hyrum - SkunkedAgain - 10-16-2024 I used to totally love trolling for trout this time of year, it was always fun, but last time I tried it, it was hard to find anything and they were like 11"ers when I did catch some... So I haven't been out this year waiting on a good report to motivate me... Okay and maybe some time to get over there would help too... Scott, I think they must be afraid of sliding in the puddle while they are plowing, otherwise it doesn't make much sense to plow camp spots that aren't used that time of year and not open the access point... I usually take the snowmobile over when the snow gets deeper, so it doesn't really bother me but I can see it would be good for the main group of ice fishermen... Anyway You'd think they would serve their customers needs... Hope I get a chance to try Hyrum before ice up and see if I can find where the fish are at this winter... Later J Perch are getting a little larger on average , still not back though. RE: Hyrum - SkunkedAgain - 10-17-2024 Hey thanks for the perch update... Sounds like a little improvement, so that's good news... |
