What nets have you guys found to best suit your fishing style?
I am thinking of changing nets.
We had a rubber net that now resides about 60' deep in the Berry unless someone has snagged it. In the excitement of catching that 6" fish I just set the net down for the water to hold it for me. Most likely it's still holding it.
I liked this net other than the weight and the large amount of resistance in the water. When replacing it I bought a net that has the rubber coating on the strings. There is nowhere near as much resistance with this net but it has a drawback that all but drives me mad. Sometimes a hook goes through one of the strings. (not as bad as uncoated nets however) After this happens it is battle on to get the hook back. (Buggar does not believe in catch and release.) Treble hooks are a real nightmare at times. (Flopping fish in the net with a loose treble just waiting to grab anything it can.)
Most times I just reach over the side of the boat and remove the hook. When grandkids are there, inexperienced anglers, or the fish is a good un the net comes into play.
Is there a net out there that has the qualities of a rubber net without the weight or water resistance?

I, like you, usually use a pair of needle nose pliers on the side of the boat. A quick flip of the wrist and the fish is on its way.
If I do need to use a net, I use one with rubber netting. I like that the lure does not get tangled in the netting compared a regular net. Especially if you are using a lure that has a set of two treble hooks attached to it. A flopping fish and dual hooks in a regular net spells trouble.
I switched to the rubber netting a long time ago and have never looked back. However, it does have its drawbacks. They are heavy and don't glide in the water easily. Also, I fish with single hook jigs 90% of the time and that helps too. Good luck on your choice.

The EGO S2 slider medium clear rubber net is an excellent net. A bit spendy but well worth the price. Light and easy to use and the slider handle is easy to extend and retract.

If you get on Temu.com you can get a rubber net replacement (just the net) for about $10. They are not bad and you can just replace the rubber coated nylon net with a fully rubber net. That is what I did, finally have what I want. I use a Beckman net that extends purchased at Cabelas for about $65 with the rubber coated nylon net with the Temu rubber replacement net.

A sectioned cut of large pool noodle leaving gaps for holding positions just may give you long enough flotation to retrieve your rubber net in the future. Float tubers love floatable nets, but they can also tether them as well but it's much harder to tether them on a boat set up. You could also try the smaller pool noodle around the frame of the rubber netting bar using zip ties to keep it there to add even more flotation if need be.

I also replaced the net on my original frame. MUCH better. There are several net making websites offering just the bag.
I squirted expanding foam into both ends of the telescoping handle. That sealed it and made it a floating net without adding bulk to the outside or interfering with the ability to collapse.

I too use the EGO S2 slider which is about the longest I could purchase. Depending on the fishing I'm doing I have a second hoop (both large hoops) I carry with a deeper net for the larger catches. The clear net as mentioned above is lighter and also have a spare replacement, I can deal with the weight. It works great for cutts & Kokes. Having a net boy is great too.

I really like the handle on the EGO S2. My bride and I were looking at em and I saw the $ tag. She wanted to buy it but it bothers me a lot more to spend $ than it does her.

I've had a replacement net in my amazon cart for about 3 months and have not pulled the trigger on it. I will look at Temu and see if there is one I like better.

I looked at foaming our current net but for some reason (I don't recall why) I figured it would not work.

I use a large Frabill net with an octagonal handle (stronger in my opinion that round handles) and a rubberized coating on the net bag. I tried the 100% rubber net bags, but they just don't swing well enough (fast enough) in the water for my liking and most have too shallow of a net bag. My net also has a handle that extends to about 5 feet and it is sufficiently large enough for fish up to 30lbs without any problems.

Sportsman's Warehouse has an aluminum telescoping Beckman net for $89.99 that is far and away my favorite net. It is lightweight, collapses down really small, and can extend really long.
I run two nets on my big boat, and I have one of those blue telescoping Ranger nets Sportsman's carries as well. Since I got the Beckman, the Ranger rarely sees the light of day, it is much too heavy in comparison.
