Do you rekon the state would make you license this? - BearLakeFishGuy - 01-28-2025 Check out this link! It's a homemade "snowdog" but I think it would be challenging for the state to license this. Link: Facebook Might be worth trying in the future instead of an actual "snowdog". RE: Do you recon the state would make you license this? - Kent - 01-28-2025 Looks interesting, but not sure how well it would get around on the snow and ice; except, in ideal conditions. RE: Do you recon the state would make you license this? - meancuznalfy - 01-28-2025 They work well in some snow, knew a guy in Montana that had one and it was pretty impressive, put his chair in the sled so he could sit and pulled another with all his gear. RE: Do you recon the state would make you license this? - Mildog - 01-28-2025 I like it!! Makes me think of an old sno blower and old tiller I had and with some modifications …… Oh well.., I have enough crazy projects I guess I’ll just walk or take the 4 wheeler but it does conjure up some ideas!! RE: Do you rekon the state would make you license this? - dubob - 01-29-2025 If ever there was a 'Novel Vehicle' Scott, that would be it. And since snowdogs are now registered as 'Novel Vehicles', I'm sure the state would jump all over this and require you to pay a fee to use it. ? RE: Do you rekon the state would make you license this? - SkunkedAgain - 01-29-2025 Ya know there are a lot of creative ways to try and get around the $38 license fee on an old snowmobile... They seem pretty cool and I love trying new things, but it's dang hard to beat a snowmobile for getting out on the ice... I know I'll get my share of haters to that comment, but I'm sorry snowmobiles are just good at doing things on the snow and ice, they were designed for it and have had fifty plus years of refinement gone into them... They do take a little experience to learn how to make them perform, but they are incredible once you know what you're doing.. They do take more room I'll grant you that for sure, but if you have a trailer it will take your mobile and your sleeper sled and leave room for your day runner in your truck bed... One point I'll grant, this is not the best year for me to push the snowmobiles value, since we have soooo little snow anywhere this winter... but on an average winter I'll stand by my comments... This year maybe the four wheeler would be a better tow vehicle, but once the snow starts to pile up they get hard to do what you need to do... Later J RE: Do you rekon the state would make you license this? - dubob - 01-29-2025 No disagreement from me Jeff. Snowmobiles are definitely a better way to go than ATVs for ice fishing. However, weight becomes an issue as one becomes an octogenarian. That is why I traded my snowmobile for a snowdog. I can still move the dead weight of the dog; I couldn't even budge the snowmobile. When I can no longer budge the dog, I'll become a snowbird and head down to Texas as soon as the duck marshes freeze up. RE: Do you rekon the state would make you license this? - SkunkedAgain - 01-29-2025 Hey Bob, I can see what you're saying, my current sled has so much compression it's a beast to pull start... I'm getting closer to wanting an electric start sled... so I can see life changes your thinking... Have fun and don’t let Bob catch all the fish please!! Keep your eye on Perchinsky also, he also knows exactly what he is doing!! RE: Do you rekon the state would make you license this? - SkunkedAgain - 01-30-2025 Hey Shane how goes the recovery? Man I can't get much time on the ice this year without health issues hope you are able to get out if you are up to it.... The FL Perch Tourney is on Feb 22, would love to make that but I sure do not want to re-injure myself either. Drove for first time yesterday so today in a few hours I am going to grab shotgun and head to trap club and see how that goes. Hopefully I don’t embarrass myself! Thank you for asking Jeff. |
