My Knees - Bduck - 02-22-2025 Have been worn out for a long time. Its gotten to the point when I walk or stand around for short periods of time I feel constant pain. I had orthoscopic surgery on my left knee back in 2008. The right knee is my oldest injury dating back to the mid 70s. Went thru a few injections of different drugs that worked just enough to buy me time to the next series injections which is usually an annual treatment. After about 6yrs of that, I quit going in for injections. After biting my lip for a while, I had an appt yesterday with an orthopedic surgeon. Both knees are bone-on-bone on inboard side of knee joint with no joint separation giving a bow-legged effect & outboard sides had separation at joint indicating a good cushion. The outcome of my doctors appt is total knee replacement with both knees. The procedure going to be used is a less invasive procedure than the norm that has been used over the years. There are not too many surgeons up on this particular procedure which is called the Jiffy Knee replacement. Its still a full knee replacement and recovery is better and a high success rate. We have some doctors here in Utah that does this, none in southeast Idaho which a good friend in Idaho Falls just had both of his done with the original procedure, one from the N Logan area who also has a Brigham City clinic and does the surgery at BC Hospital. I'm scheduled to get both knees replaced 2 months apart in April & June. This wipes out a portion of my fishing season. ![]() RE: My Knees - RockyRaab2 - 02-22-2025 You weren't bread to loaf around. Batter to get knead. RE: My Knees - stan55 - 02-22-2025 Phunny RE: My Knees - wiperhunter2 - 02-23-2025 Sorry to hear you are going through this Roger but I bet you will be happy once it is done. RE: My Knees - RILEYFISH - 02-23-2025 Sadly, my right knee has been pretty sore as of late. Lots of bone grinding going on from years of abuse and sports has taken its toll on them. I’m sure I’m not far behind you. Good luck. L RE: My Knees - Cowboypirate - 02-23-2025 I hope they get ya fixed up quickly. I enjoy your fishing reports. RE: My Knees - packfish - 02-23-2025 About 3 months ago and friend had the same diagnosis. Done in Logan. You would think he never had a problem. An amazing outcome for the better, RE: My Knees - Bduck - 02-24-2025 (02-23-2025, 02:31 PM)RILEYFISH Wrote: Sadly, my right knee has been pretty sore as of late. There have been some good days, the pain always comes back. Doing a task while on the knees has sidelined me for next 2-3 days. Pain never goes away, neither does the chores. Driving short or long distances brings on the pain, Strawberry, the Gorge, Fontenelle, E Canyon just to name a couple getting stoved up too. The knees have impacted & limited my activities. I'm ready for the change. RE: My Knees - AFDan52 - 02-24-2025 Well while we are on the Subject of surgery , I had surgery on an Umbilical Hernia that started giving me some pain and troubles after a lot of years . The surgery was last Wednesday , it still hurts pretty good but glad it's done . I should be good for fishing this year. L I hear you Roger, two hours in a car and i have to get out for a bit and stretch things out. I have a difficult time kneeling down on anything hard. Grass is ok, cement is rough if not at all. I just keep on going. Im sure my day is coming for going under the knife for some relief. I know who my doc will be and have spoke with him about it already. Keep us posted for sure. RE: My Knees - jjannie - 02-25-2025 You'll be glad you did it. Jeff had both his knees done serval years ago due to bone-on-bone pains by Dr. Baranko in Ogden - One in April then one in August. He's never looked back. He didn't have the Jiffy knee procedure (that we are aware of) and he was very good at doing all the physical therapy each required. He's very happy he did it, he almost waited too long to get it done and was getting quite bull-legged over time - it was almost strange to see him with straight legs once again. Best of Luck! RE: My Knees - dubob - 03-04-2025 Welcome to the old man's orthopedic club Roger. Right shoulder cuff repair (2010), left shoulder cuff repair (2011), left total knee (2015), right reverse shoulder replacement (Feb 5, 2025). I also had a CABG X 5 (Sep 2023). Still going at 82 years young. You'll be asking yourself in September why you waited so long to get the knees done. ![]() |
