hole 33 - crazy4fish - 05-27-2004 hey there, I'm new to this, but i have been reading it for awhile. My wife and I have been going fishing a lot at lake mead. We have a small row boat, and have done pretty well the last couple of time we went to government wash. I was reading some of the postings and in a few you were talking about a place called hole 33. I have looked on every map I have, and have yet to find it. Is it some secret spot or what. You may think were crazy, but we are planning on going out again this weekend. We just can't seem to stop. We just wanted to find a new, good place to go. we plan on maybe staying overnight. Anyone with any directions or ideas would be greatly appricated. Hole 33 isn't hard to find, it's on Lakeshore Road between the old Las Vegas Marina and the Hatchery. It's labeled on the left hand side of the this map http://www.nps.gov/lame/bbasin.pdf. There will be a sign for the turn off on Lakeshore Road. I don't think your row boat will do you much good out there though, unless you have a hinch with about 500' of cable too get your boat back up from the water. The walk down is fairly easy but the slow climb back up can be a pain in the rear. I would recommend packing light. Be sure to let us know how you do. I once launched the car topper in the picture below from Pumphouse Cove. Worth reconn driving down there during the week to check out. I expect Vegas Wash is just too muddy to launch even a small boat. From the water, 33 hole is confusing to find if you haven't been there. It is just a redder soft rock shore the 3 coves that are showing the most litter and shore use. Beyond 33 Hole towards vegas wash is cliff walls and no more real sizeable coves. The coves on the way there (Pitchfork) are good also. Couldn't recommend the camping. Better places to camp might be dirt road accesses off 167 to Boxcar and Crawdad coves. may be some OK largemouth in that area. Again I don't know about launch possibilities in that area. see: http://www.nps.gov/lame/bbasin.pdf If you are willing, launching at Gov't Wash it is maybe 1 1/2 miles to Crawdad and some good fishing terrain along the way (with the low water conditions). Is exposed to the prevailing winds however. For boat and motor check out: http://www.watercraftfsbo.com/cgi-win/selboat.exe look at ad #31122. I will sell this cheaper to a forum member. Even has pin holes for oarlocks. [signature] Re: [reellittlephish] hole 33 - crazy4fish - 05-28-2004 Thanks for the info. I guess hole 33, may not be the best for us if we want to use the boat, however we might try boxcar cove again. That was the first plase we went to when we started our fishing addiction. That time the wind was so bad all we could do was fish from shore so we never had a chance to try the bost out there, but it would have been nice. I'll let you kow how we do when we get back.
