Time Fished: 9am to dusk Summary: I fished the better part of the day. Generally the morning was slow. I picked up one fish before noon, and things didn't really start to pick up until 1pm or so. I've found that the best "bite" so to speak, has been from mid-afternoon until 6pm or so. I continued to fish a double nymph rig and today no one particular pattern seemed to do the trick. I would fish through a run and if I didn't hit a fish, I'd try something different and that would often do the trick. I would continue to fish any larger stonefly nymph (size 8 or 10) with a variety of smaller flies as the dropper. I hit a couple cutthroat today as well, which represent the first cutts for me in the Cedar. The evening did not produce a very good hatch today and I didn't see many fish rising, however, nymphing continued to work into the evening on this day. The Cedar closes at the end of the day on August 31st. If you are going to fish it, now is the time. Patterns Fished: Large stonefly nymphs in golden and hare's ear, battle creek woolly bugger, olive hare's ear and a rock roller I wouldn't go to the Cedar right now without: Double bead stonefly nymph in golden and hare's ear Golden Stone Red Squirrel Nymph 8 Morrish's Hot Wire Caddis Amber 14 Rock Roller - 8 Glo Bugs Battle Creek Woolly Bugger Olive BH Hare's Ear Report submitted by: Nathan Keen Re: [tubeN2] Recent Fishing Reports for Washington. 8/25/04 - tubeN2 - 08-26-2004 Stillaguamish River – North Fork - August 16th, 2004 supplied by: Dickson Flyfishing Steelhead Guides FISHING: Fair On the stilly I have seen sockeye, SRC's, steelhead, Kings and some really big Dollys. The fish are starting to see a few flies. It is time to start showing them something different. I have seen a few gear fishermen, guys using fly rods with spoons, and even those little white Styrofoam bait containers. It would be nice to see more enforcement on the N.F. Stilly. Here is a side note from the Wild Steelhead Coalition: REQUEST FOR LETTERS! THE AUGUST 28 STEELHEAD MORATORIUM HEARING IS FAST APPROACHING! PLEASE HELP SAVE OUR WILD STEELHEAD! SEND OUT YOUR LETTERS TO THE FISH & WILDLIFE COMMISSION. TELL THEM THAT YOU WANT THE TWO-YEAR WILD STEELHEAD MORATORIUM TO REMAIN IN PLACE! AT THIS TIME WE ARE ON THE BRINK OF HAVING THE MORATORIUM REVERSED. MAIL YOUR LETTERS TO: Washington Fish & Wildlife Commission 600 Capitol Way North Olympia, WA 98501-1091 OR E-MAIL: Commission@dfw.wa.gov Mailed letters have more weight then do email letters so if you can take the time to type one out and mail it in that would be great along with an email. GET THOSE CAR POOLS ORGANIZED! While letters are vitally important, being in attendance at the Bremerton hearing on August 28 will do even more for our cause. The City of Forks is planning to bring a large contingent of people who want the moratorium rescinded. We will need more people than ever to meet this challenge. If you plan to testify you will need to have a copy of your testimony for each of the commissioners and other officials who will be at the hearing. Even if you do not plan to give testimony, your presence is still imperative. Thank you for your continued support. Skagit below the Sauk down to Concrete has zero visibility right now due to warm temps and glacial melt on the Sauk. Re: [tubeN2] Recent Fishing Reports for Washington. 8/25/04 - tubeN2 - 08-26-2004 Yakima River - August 23rd, 2004 supplied by: All About the Fly RECORDED: ![]() ![]() The Yakima has been dropping slowly and surely for the last couple of weeks. All fishing has been from a boat since the flows are still to high to wade. The water temp. has been approaching the 70 degree mark, so be nice to the fish and don't play them any more then necessary. The banks are still good areas to concentrate on, but the fish are also holding in areas any where there is added oxygen, which can mean right out in the middle of the river. Big ugly's with rubber legs, Hopper's, Beetle's. and droppers are all working. Fishing info provided by guide Bill Loder.
